Over the last 20 years as a military officer I’ve met rogues, renegades and eccentrics whose colourful characters have burned bright in some of the darkest places and situations imaginable. Throughout history these people arrive like duck billed platypuses waddling into a leopards only nightclub. They’re often loners, almost always disruptors and come with issues as big as their characters, but the bottom line is they embroider the fabric of our nation’s history with those quintessentially British strands that keep the rest held together. I’ve built and commanded 2 of the most unorthodox military units imagined since WW2. I can tell you with absolute certainty that these incredible weirdos, these awkward heroes/sheroes, these colossal characters still exist. It’s been the most rewarding part of my military life to track them down and convince them to use their unusual or hidden superpowers to do amazing things. Since I can remember I’ve called the blood clot they formed in my mind ‘The Mad Brigade’. This podcast is about them and their inspirational military stories through history. So Thanks for tuning into this episode of The Mad Brigade. I’m delighted to introduce you to one of my favourite members who has offered me so much inspiration in good times and bad.
