Truth and Light

Truth is found wherever there is the light of Christ and the laws of God. We are all children of God. God is called the Father of Lights. To inherit the kingdom of God, we must become children of light. Wherever truth is found, God is found. Wherever God’s hand is found, truth is found in greater abundance. We must gather truth until we have a fullness. All who are born on this earth bring with them the spirit of truth. We lose truth when we sin against the light. All children are born innocent. It is the corruptions of this world that destroy the light within.

Our primary goal in this life should be to seek truth and through truth obey law and become sanctified through the Holy Ghost. It is a never-ending quest. To endure to the end is the final virtue.

If we think of the law of mercy as infinite truth, perhaps we can begin to understand truth and understand God, who is both just and merciful. God is just by necessity, merciful by nature; just by infinite power, merciful by infinite knowledge and love; just by the exercise of pure intelligence, merciful by the exercise of freewill; just by the law of justice, merciful by the law of mercy.

Speaking of the coming of Christ, Isaiah said,

“7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” (Isaiah 9:7)

Justice comes from the law of justice. Judgment comes from the law of mercy. John tells us that “grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17)

Who can comprehend God? Who can comprehend man who is made in the image of God? David sings:

“4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. 6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: 7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; 8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. 9 O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!” (Psalm 8:4-9)

For me, one of the beauties of this Psalm is how it explains the mission of Christ yet also glorifies man and assures us that God is mindful of us. Christ, the creator of this world, descended below the angels, yet was crowned with glory and honor. As spirits in heaven, angels of God ourselves, we also gave up the glory that we once had while living in the presence of God. When we came to earth, a veil was drawn over our minds. Man was given dominion over the creations of Christ. The Father entrusted the Son with his power; The Son of God entrusted man with his power. ‘Dominion’ is the key word. Christ created the earth and all things in it. David sings, “Thou madest him [man] to have dominion over the works of thy [Christ’s] hands.”
