In episode 100 I speak with Mary Cain, who is a professional runner and founder of the nonprofit and professional running team, Atalanta NYC.

Atalanta NYC employs professional female runners to serve as mentors for young girls while building both their career skills and training full-time.

Along with focusing on her training, Mary works at Tracksmith, as the NYC Community Manager, New York Road Runners. After sharing her story with the world in a 2019 NY Times Op-Ed, Mary has dedicated her career to driving change in the sport, with an emphasis on athlete well-being and gender equity, and Atalanta NYC is just one way she's trying to give back to the sport of running.

I’ve been fortunate enough to speak with Patti Dillon (episode 50) the first American woman to run a sub 2:30 marathon and Julia Chase-Brand (episode 96), the first American woman to officially finish a major road running race. It was equally as insightful to speak and learn from Mary who is another pioneer within running.

As this podcast is called a runner’s life, we dive into what this looks like based on her lived experiences, we cover her running at present and she shares valuable insights and lessons, that I’m sure you will reflect on long after listening to this episode. This is one of my favourite podcast conversations and I know that you will enjoy it as well.

This episode is supported by Tracksmith, a brand which actively represents and supports the development of a runner’s life in the running community. In this episode I share some of my favourite items of training kit, which I use for easy runs and my workouts. One of my favourite items of kit right now is the session speed shorts from the Session Collection which are ideal for everyday training.
