Kit talks to Victoria Fernandes (she/her) over a mug of coffee from Fazenda Rio Verde, chatting about painting portraits of birds, the family's old coffee farm, camels and mathematics, amongst other things! Victoria is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Imperial College London from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil but currently residing in Cambridge, UK. She is a geologist researching how the Earth’s landscape has changed over space and time. Specifically, Victoria studies how climate and tectonics modulate river erosion over millions of years. When not working she likes painting tropical birds, and developing the 'Watson Forum' a platform for promoting women in STEM! Some links to things mentioned in the chat: - 'The River' by Valerie Bloom (childrens.poetryarchive.org/poem/the-river/) - The Watson Forum (imperial.ac.uk/earth-science/news-events/outreach/watson-forum/) - BBC's A Perfect Planet "Weather" Episode (imdb.com/title/tt13688664/) Expand your Geography community by connecting with Victoria via Twitter (twitter.com/vmfernandes13, Instagram (instagram.com/studio.vmfernandes/) and her GitHub website (vmfernandes.github.io) ==About Coffee & Geography== The aim of ‘Coffee & Geography’ is to get to know, explore and celebrate the diverse & intersectional range of people and their love for the world. We’ll have fun exploring all the myriad of ways that connects your life to geography. Wait – you don’t think you’re a ‘geographer’? Well, that’s ok!
