The year is 1849. Darkness hangs over the streets of London in the wake of a grisly murder, and at the heart of it all is William Woodes, the foremost stenographer of the era. Tasked with the undesirable ordeal of recording the details of the Manning Murder for the renowned printing house in Black Friars, Mr Woodes’ literary wit propels him into the annals of history.
