How would your classroom look if your students' reading levels increased, or if you began hearing from parents that your students were voluntarily reading at home, or they arrived at your classroom asking to read.

This was the experience I had when I moved to a new school district that had implemented Reader’s Workshop.

I was initially skeptical that Reader’s Workshop would work. If I let students choose their own books how would that lead to them becoming a stronger reader? Where was the teaching in this model? How would I know where every student was in the learning process?

Looking back it’s crazy how skeptical I was because now I can’t imagine teaching reading any other way!

Join me as I share what Reader’s workshop is and what Reader’s Workshop is not. What the 5 key components to Reader’s Workshop are and how they benefit your students and what the real magic part to Reader’s Workshop is.

What you will learn in this episode:

  • What is Reader’s Workshop
  • Why I believe so strongly in Reader’s Workshop
  • 5 key components that make up Reader’s Workshop
  • How students will utilize Reader’s Workshop to take ownership over their reading
  • The real magic behind Reader’s Workshop
