Mindful breathing will help build a foundation for mindfulness. Becoming aware of your breath allows you to connect to the present when you feel overwhelmed. Slowing down to reconnect to your breath, will open the door for you to become aware of racing thoughts and negative emotions. As a result, you’ll have the power to slow it down. Whenever your mind starts to drift you can focus on your breath to regain awareness of thoughts and environment.

When you’re able to take control you can feel your body start to relax, as a result the anxiety you feel will drop. During mindful breathing, the insula and the anterior cingulate cortex (a region of the brain involved in moment-to-moment awareness) activates, allowing us to become present of ourselves and environment.
