The latest television show added to the fray of reality show portrayals of black life in America, is a show called Sorority Sisters. It depicts women who are members of the Divine 9 black Greek letter sororities. Saying the show displays them in a less than favorable light is an understatement. There have been many protests and a huge petition to stop the show yet VH1 has still gone forward with its airing. The show brings up a lot of questions about the way black people and black women in particular have been portrayed in media historically and raises a lot of questions about how corporate media is affecting the image of black women in society. Guest Michelle Gordon Jackson, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the former daughter-in-law of the former Atlanta Mayor, Maynard H. Jackson will be featured.
