Episode 24: Happy Veterans Day! Often round this time of year I'm in #ScorpioSeason mode. There are a lot of birthdays and celebrations in my family including November 11th. I know my grandfather was in the Army, as well as few of my uncles and friends, including those who are still active duty in other branches of military (Can you tell me how many there are?). I never really knew any Black Women Veterans that could tell me about their experience and time in the military. Shoot...I didn't even really understand the renewing or contracts and retention! So as usual, my network of friends and organizations came through and voilà, we have an MPressive MProper Mimi episode on Black Women in the military.
So join your host, Mimi Jacks as I sit down with 1st Sergeant Tiffany Eaddy and listen in to us chat about the ups and downs of being in the military, leadership, feelings of accomplishment, and the stigma of being a Black Women in a position of authority. There also is a long history of Black Women in the military and we talked about a couple of those firsts, some being as recent as within the last few years.
As we are also coming off of another historic 2020 Presidential election, I also wanted to give voice to other Black Women Veterans to gain a better understanding of what so many go through in the military with their careers, families and internal growth. Women who had to endure sexual harassment, racism, leaving children behind while on tour, disrespect, and slander as well as promotions, traveling abroad, marriage, entrepreneurship, and successfully retiring! Thanks goes out to Keesha Dancy, Natasha Howard, 2nd Lieutenant Yolanda Knight and Staff Sergeant Sofia Olds . You ladies truly blessed me and I hope you all continue to share your stories.
So please listen and share the MProper Mimi podcast where we love to empower women in all they do at Home Work and Play! Feel free to show your support by becoming a sponsor today.
