Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an increasingly prevalent, chronic, T2 inflammatory disease triggered by food and/or environmental allergens. Due to underlying tissue inflammation, patients suffer diminished quality of life due to symptoms such as weight loss, difficulty swallowing, and heartburn. Patients can experience these symptoms for a long time before receiving a proper diagnosis. Once diagnosed, treatment options have historically been limited. Fortunately, therapies that treat other type 2 disorders are in development or are approved to treat EoE. At a recent live event, experts used patient cases to discuss the diagnosis, underlying causes, and the newest treatments for EoE, including biologic therapies. Watch this on-demand version now! Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to: Distinguish signs and symptoms of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) among children and adults to enable an earlier diagnosis and minimize complications due to uncontrolled disease; Recognize underlying mechanisms of EoE, including the role of key cytokines such as interleukins -4, -13, and -5 as drivers of type 2 inflammation and how this relates to emerging treatment; and Apply the latest expert recommendations and clinical evidence to the treatment of patients with EoE, particularly as novel and emerging agents become available.
