Was It Sleep Paralysis?

Did one person simply have a bout of sleep paralysis, or was it something more?
Here is a preview of the story.
“I remember, suddenly, being aware of my surroundings but I was unable to move, speak or even open my eyes. I know my eyes were still shut because I could feel the heaviness of my eye lids from being so tired. And even though my eyes were shut, it was like they were open because I can still see our bedroom in the dark blue light of the moon shining through the window blinds. I tried to move but I was frozen where I laid. I suddenly became aware of someone or something else in the room. I could not see what it was, but I knew it was there. I could feel this being move towards me almost like it was checking to see if I were awake. But the strange thing was it would never make it to my body although I could feel it getting closer. I tried to sit up to make sure someone had not gotten in our house but could not move a muscle. So, I tried to scream or make a noise of any kind trying to jolt myself out of this frozen state but failed every time I tried. I remember my arm was draped over my wife as she lay facing the wall so I tried to move my arm in a way that would get her attention so she could pull me out of this paralyzed nightmare. I could not do anything but lie there and wait for this to be over.”
