www.changemakerspublishingandwriting.com There is a short 2 minute introduction to the book on YouTube at https://youtu.be/hO3S25swBMs. There is also a popular song: Are We Back to the Middle Ages? on YouTube at https://youtu.be/1m5kTv7eHxk The book is based on the premise that today’s growing split between rich and poor is like the divide between royalty, nobles, and rich merchants versus the medieval peasants and artisans. The book makes comparisons between the rise of the medieval kingdoms and the battles between the high tech titans, the division of labor then and now, and the parallels between different institutions and lifestyles. It concludes with some recommendations on what to do about the problem. The book is a very important book that can contribute to the national conversation about the problem and what to do about it. Some questions you might ask about the book include these: 1) Why is it important to know why America is like the Middle Ages in many ways? 2) How is the U.S. like the Middle Ages? Why is the growing inequality in America such a major factor? 3) How are the superrich like the nobles and royalty of medieval times? 4) How are the poor today like the peasants back then? 5) What can we learn for today about what happened in medieval times? 6) How are the peasant rebellions comparable to the rebellions we are experiencing today? What about the crackdowns by the police and military today? How are they comparable to the way the royalty and nobles cracked down on the peasants? 7) How is today’s pandemic like the Black Death? What about the death rate and what people did to deal with the pandemic then and now? What were the differences in who got affected in both periods? 8) What are examples of parallels between then and now, such as the courtiers in the courts in the Middle Ages and the retinues of publicists and advisers around celebrities now? 9) You compare the role of the media to the role of the Church in medieval times? Why is that? 10) Based on your research into the Middle Ages, what do you recommend we do now to heal the great divisions and conflicts in our society. 11) What inspired you to write this book? What kind of research did you do to write it? 12) What other books are you working on? Are you planning anything else involving learning from history for today? Gini, who has a PhD in Sociology, a JD in Law, and five MAs including in Anthropology, Pop Culture and Lifestyles, and Communication, writes frequently about social trends and everyday life. She is the author of several dozen books with major publishers, including some books on current social themes and history: The Very Next New Thing, Playing the Lying Game, Lies and Liars: How and Why Sociopaths Lie and How To Detect And Deal With Them, and Scammed.
