U.S. President Joe Biden announced an end to the country's 20-year formal military involvement in Afghanistan, saying that all 2,500 remaining troops will be withdrawn by September 11, 2021. NATO allies followed suit, officially ending the coalition's involvement in the conflict. Observers warned that withdrawal could lead to intensified fighting between the Afghan government and the Taliban, which has gained strength in recent years.

Join the Global Current today as Analysts Daniela Maquera and Harshana Ghoorhoo - the "DiploLab Duo" - break down the history of the conflict, the details of the withdrawal, and how it will affect the dynamics between the Taliban and the Afghan government. Before our discussion, News Briefer Joshua Powanda updates us on the latest headlines from around the globe.
