During New Zealand's COVID-19 Level 4 lockdown, Andy and Michael catch up with Marcus Wheelhouse, coach of some of New Zealand's best and up and coming players including Ryan Fox, Fraser Wilkin, Harry Bateman, Daniel Pearce and many more.
Marcus started playing golf at just 8 years of age and had a successful career. He ranked the Number One Amateur Golfer in the world in 1995 and was awarded Auckland Sportsman of the Year that year. As an amateur, Marcus won 31 amateur tournaments including successfully defending the New Zealand Stroke play Championship in 1993 and 1994.
He was a member of the successful New Zealand Eisenhower Trophy Team of 1994 and enjoyed overseas success too, winning six overseas tournaments including the Malaysian Amateur Tournament and the prestigious Lake Macquarie Championship in Australia.
Marcus turned professional in January 1996 and was named Rookie of the Year on the Australian Tour. He then played in Europe on the Challenge Tour for five years before playing on the nationwide and mini-tours in the USA for another few years before an injury ended his playing career.
Beginning a new chapter in his life, Marcus returned to New Zealand in 2007 and started teaching the game he loves and now is a AAA NZPGA member.
