Today we have Grace Claydon. Grace is the founder of a new charity Queer Street which aims to help young LGBTQIAP+ people find community, housing, advice and support. We dig into how even though the perception is that it is much easier to come out in 2021 than even 10 years ago, still young people wrestle with feeling like their sexual identity is not good enough.
Grace talks about how her charity supports these young people as they explore their sexual and gender identity as well as the act of setting up the structure of the charity itself and dealing with the inevitable imposter syndrome of being a young adult C EO of an organisation.
It always excites me to hear stories of people who are driven to action when they know there is a need to support others, especially when it involves young people.
And today I love how Grace's passion has prompted action and that she hasnt waited until she feels like she knows everything. grace is willing to learn along the way. She will probably make mistakes and i love how she realises that this is part of the process to becoming a confident CEO
Of course the role isn’t about doing everything herself and the fact that she has good trustees and is willing to deligate shows that she is able to let go of some of the ideas that to be CEO you have to be the expert at everything.
Finally I love her message to queer young people that they are good enough as they are, and that their sexuality doesnt take away from that. The ongoing community grace is creating will become a safe haven for those seeking answers to questions and even allow them to work out what those questions are along the way. This permission and safe space is truly wonderful.
