On today's episode: The open world genre - a mainstay and staple of modern video games that lets you take more control of your experience than the tried and true linear progression system. Our ability to explore is only hampered by the enemies and mobs that litter the different regions, and whether we’re brave (or high level enough) to push through the chaos. While a majority of open world games provide a rather enjoyable experience, there are some that seem to cross into the repetitive and frustrating: Save this outpost, and this outpost, and that outpost; run materials from this person to this group and that group, and return with the money; Protect this set of travelers going this way, and a group of adventurers going the other. A lot of open world games follow the same moniker, and it seems some open world games can’t stop copying and pasting from each other. So what is the open world genre like right now compared to days of yore? Well, let’s talk about it in this week’s Discuss: Open World Games - Fun at the Expense of Chores.
