When "-ed" is pronounced "d"
Manage episode 293350529 series 2931064
In earlier podcasts we looked at verbs ending in "-ed" where the sound is "t", like tricked or trucked. In this episode, the examples have the same past tense ending, "-ed", but the sound is now a "d". In some cases an extra syllable is added (and added is an example!): for example in rejected or interrupted.
Sentences in this lesson:
guarded - The Capitol was guarded by members of the National Guard.
cheated - My uncle cheated us.
waited - I waited and waited and waited some more. He never came.
decided - We decided to go to the beach.
invented - Yesterday I invented a new kind of battery that will last forever.
handed - The left-handed man handed me a hammer.
gobbled - Our dog gobbled his dinner in seconds.
carried - We carried the injured people to the waiting ambulances.
avoided - He avoided his wife’s eyes. He felt quite ashamed.
expanded - As I blew, the balloon expanded rapidly.
pretended - The man pretended to be a doctor but he wasn’t.
