In 2010, Grace started feeling short of breath during her soccer season, so she went for some tests to see what was going on. Her heart looked great, but the doctors saw some abnormal abdominal spots and her blood work also came back with very concerning levels of anemia.

After an endoscopy and some sample testing, it was revealed that Grace had a
gastrointestinal stromal tumor, a type of soft tissue sarcoma, and the tumor in her
stomach that had ulcered and was actively bleeding. Grace then went in for a major open abdomen surgery and they removed the bleeding tumor plus more than a dozen other tumors throughout her abdomen and abdominal organs.

Following her surgery, Grace was on oral chemotherapy for 5-6 years, throughout her
college years, then was off treatment for about 2 years. Grace is now on an oral chemotherapy for just under a year. Grace works as a concussion research technician at Boston Children’s Hospital. She received her undergraduate degree from Boston University in neurobiology as well as an MBA from Simmons
