It is our resolve at Covenant URC to truly hold the Three Forms of Unity as reflecting the Word of God and promote these in our congregation. May the Lord keep us faithful to this task. As the Belgic Confession mentions the marks of the true church are: the pure preaching of the gospel, the right use of the sacraments, and the practice of church discipline. Services are in English Language.

Dr. VanDrunen will be developing the Biblical storyline of the covenants which culminate in Christ’s kingdom and New Covenant. Starting with Adam before and after the fall the two different types of covenants will be identified as law and grace. Then the story will unfold through the covenants with Noah, Abraham, Moses, David and then arrive at the New Covenant and the kingdom of Christ it administers. Questions having to do with how covenant helps us to interpret Scripture, the meaning of c ...

Word Life Church is a Bible-based, Spirit-filled, full gospel church. The mission of Word Life Church is to teach believers worldwide who they are in Christ Jesus and how to live a victorious life in their covenant rights and privileges. The fulfillment of that mission takes place when those believers become rooted and grounded enough in God's Word to reach out and teach others these same principles. (Acts17:28, 2 Corinthians 13:4, 1 Peter 2:24, 1 John 4:9 , Ephesians 3:17)

Please join us in this special time of Communion if you have put your faith in Jesus Christ and acknowledge Him as Lord. What is Communion and why do we as Christians observe it? Unlike baptism, which is a one time event, Communion is a practice that is meant to be observed over and over throughout the life of a Christian. It is a holy time of worship when we come together as one body to remember and celebrate what Christ did for us. Why do we observe Communion? 1. We observe Communion becau ...

Water is something we need. 60% of our bodies are made of it. 75% of our planet is covered in it. Human beings can survive months without food, but only days without water. So, we can’t be too far from it. But when too much water comes too close too fast, water can also be devastating. Because it’s powerful. Water can scour rocks into canyons over …

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings…” -Heb 13:8-9a How can we be certain that what we believe as Christians is correct? How can we know that we have interpreted the Scriptures in a way that will lead to salvation? What assurance do we have that we possess the truth? The answ…

Preacher: Douglas WilsonText: Ps. 25:9-10, 14One of the things that happens when you move into Reformed or Presbyterian settings is that you start hearing the word *covenant* a lot. I had a friend who once accused us of talking about covenant peanut butter and covenant jelly. He wasn’t wrong, but then again, neither were we.…

Jordan Byrd's sermon from 28 Mar 2021 at the Clarence Church of Christ, Clarence , NY: The Final Week #4 - Jesus' Crucifixion - The Installation Of The New Covenant Was Finished At The Cross (Luke 23_33-35, John 19_29-30)Di Jordan Byrd

Preacher: Toby SumpterChrist is risen, and He rose in this world with a human body in order that all things might be made new. The center of this new creation is the forgiveness of sins, but that is merely the great and glorious foundation. Remember that Jesus Christ is the Creator of the Universe, and so it is no accident that Jesus is the One re-…

Often, our lives look and feel like chaos. There appears to be no meaning, order, or purpose for what happens. And it goes deep; as deep as we care to look. And because of that we often live in the darkness of despair or the fantasy of denying that despair. But hope still shines in that darkness. Because over our chaos, God’s Spirit hovers and with…

Preacher: Douglas WilsonText: 2 Thess. 1One of the more difficult things for us to learn concerning our sanctification is the difference between repairs and growth. Both are involved in sanctification, but they are not at all the same thing. Imagine a potted flower that you have sitting on the window sill, flourishing there in the sunlight. Let us …

We do not have a God who remains at a distance from us. Not a distance of silence or space, altitude or attitude. Instead, He is a God who constantly pursues us and seeks to draw near. He is not satisfied with any gap that stands between us. So, He speaks into it, He pours out His Spirit into it, He sends His people into it with His power and His b…

What the majority of people – most especially those claiming to be Christian, think is not the litmus test for truth. The most important things (things which will have the greatest impact on your life and others) can be the hardest or least desirable (IOW: quitting is not an option simply bc something hurts). Jesus did (indeed) rise from the dead. …

O Father, we have just sung these words, the voice that spans the years speaking life, stirring hope, bringing peace to us, and so we pray that we might hear that same voice, that it would not be the voice of a mere man, that You would give to us by the Holy Spirit a […] The post The Cave of Faith appeared first on Christ Covenant Church.…

Preacher: Ben ZornesFalse gods are mute. They can’t express their will, they can’t proclaim their delight in their worshippers, they can’t speak a single word, let alone a performative word of power. In contrast, the God of Abraham speaks continually. He speaks generally in the words of creation, and leaves every last soul without excuse, for even …

Preacher: Ben MerkleText: 1 Cor. 15:1–19PHARISEES AND SADDUCEESActs 22:30-23:10When Paul appears before the Sanhedrin, he appeals to his belief in the resurrection. This was a point of theology that divided the Pharisees and the Sadducees. The Pharisees believed in a resurrection and the Sadducees did not. Paul’s appeal effectively split the Sanhed…

Preacher: Douglas WilsonText: Acts 4:1–4Because Jesus rose from the dead, in fulfillment of the words of the ancient prophets (Acts 3:24), and because He did so in fulfillment of His own confident pronouncements that He would rise (Matt. 20:18-19), the gospel message of the resurrected Christ has true authority. It is not the thing that must be pro…

For centuries, theologians have spoken of the work of Christ as being carried out in two different states. Of course, not states like North Carolina and South Carolina, state in this sense refers to Christ’s position as determined by His relationship to the law and then the condition that follows from that state. These two […] The post Christ’s Hum…

We will continue on in Philippians, chapter 2, looking at verses 9 through 11. Hear the Word of the Lord. “Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under […] The post Christ’s Exaltation appeared first on Christ Covenant…

Preacher: Douglas WilsonSermon: The Public CrossJesus was not murdered in private by thugs, only to come back from the dead in secret, with a select band of initiates being told to whisper the news to another handful: “Pssst! Pass it on.” No, He was executed publicly by the authorities, and He rose from the dead in such a way as to declare His abso…

Preacher: Douglas WilsonThe story of our Lord’s passion is a story that is saturated in ironies. One of those ironies is found in how the high priest got Jesus to speak at His trial, and what the Lord included in His answer. Just as Jesus made the good confession before Pilate (1 Tim. 6:13), so also He spoke the truth before Caiaphas—making the goo…

Preacher: Toby SumpterFreedom and truth go together, hand in hand. Freedom is not merely lack of constraint or the power of choice. Because it if were, truth would have no bearing on freedom. You wouldn’t need truth to be free. But Jesus says that you cannot be free apart from the truth. The truth is what makes a man free. And therefore, lies are w…

(biblical) MYTH BUSTERS “Debunking the biblical myths believed by the big dummies of this world” The Scriptures are simple enough that a child can understand them (I don’t need qualified and trained pastors). When addressing that issue, the Scripture themselves bear witness to their difficulty on more than one occasion (2Pe 3:15-16; Luk 8:9-10; Act…

On Sunday, we will be celebrating what church tradition calls: Palm Sunday. It comes from the part in scripture when Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey and the people throw down their coats and palm branches. It is also referred to as His Triumphal Entry. But there was a gap of understanding between the crowd and Jesus on that day. It seems lik…

If we want to “speak” as God’s “physicians” or counselors to others then we need: 1) to understand more of God’s truth than them (13:1-3), 2) a right application of God’s truth and a right diagnosis of the person we are dealing w/ (13:4), 3) to realize the wisdom of silence (or saying nothing when we are not sure what to say) (13:5), 4) to avoid sp…

I think it’s true for most of us that we live in the midst of a lot of noise. I’m not thinking so much of sheer decibel volume, but constant distraction, constant pulling at our attention. This is the struggle that we have in our digital information age. And it’s unique to us. Now it’s […] The post Justified by Faith Alone appeared first on Christ …
