The War and Treaty’s Michael and Tanya Trotter grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington, DC, respectively, but both have family roots in the South. They also grew up in the musical traditions of their churches – Tanya in the Black Baptist Church and Michael in the Seventh Day Adventist Church – where they learned the power of song to move people. After becoming a father at a very young age, Michael eventually joined the armed forces and served in Iraq and Germany, where he took up songwriting as a way of dealing with his experiences there. Meanwhile Tanya embarked on a singing and acting career after a breakthrough appearance in Sister Act 2 alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill. Now, after a long and sometimes traumatic journey, Michael and Tanya are married, touring, winning all sorts of awards, and set to release their fifth album together, and their fourth as The War and Treaty. Sid talks to Michael and Tanya about the new record, Plus One , as well as their collaboration with Miranda Lambert, what it was like to record at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, and how they’re blending country, soul, gospel, and R&B. ×Bad shepherds lead us into a counterfeit abundance. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, offers true abundant life. How do we tell the difference? How can we recognise bad shepherds? Most importantly, how can we experience Jesus’ abundant life?
As today’s parable describes, Jesus expects us to serve Him with an attitude of non-entitlement, humility and selflessness. Easier said than done! Luke, Preshan and guest presenter Shian explore how we can maintain correct ministry motivations.
In today’s parable, Jesus explicitly demands from His followers the high standard of limitless forgiveness toward those who may offend us. Is this even possible? If so, how? And what are the consequences if I refuse to forgive freely?
Wealth and financial success are often society’s primary method of gauging the measure of a person. Jesus challenges this idea head on, offering a very different scale of measurement. So what does it take to be ‘rich’ in God’s eyes?
Luke and Preshan return with a key lesson we can learn from the Parable of the Talents – a lesson which takes on a new depth in the wake of Covid-induced disruption to church life. Of the three servants in the story, which are you?
Walk by faith, not by sight. Walk in the light. We know the Scriptures but what does it mean to live this way like the Bible asks us? Join Luke and Preshan’s exploration of 1 Thessalonians 5 in the first socially distant Hilltop.Church podcast.
Coronavirus COVID-19 is changing life as we know it. Ps Phil is joined by Preshan and guest presenter Chris Holder to discuss a believer’s response amid uncertain times. Historically when darkness closes in, the church rises and shines.
In today’s podcast, Luke and Preshan talk about the character of God. Scripture tells us He is a magnificent being of unsearchable greatness and power beyond comprehension. How can we escape the danger of thinking God is smaller than He really is?
Guest presenter Millie Holder joins Preshan to talk about expressing God’s love in our everyday lives. Millie is a 15-year-old high school student with a refreshingly uncomplicated approach to faith centred around love for Jesus and others.
“Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God.” Who is a peacemaker? What’s the difference between peacemaking and peacekeeping? Am I guilty of being a peacebreaker? Take a look at this verse in light of Jesus’ earnest desire for unity.
Has your relationship with God been affected by unconfessed sin? Have feelings of guilt and shame made you run away from Him? In this episode, discover how God wants you to respond in these situations so you can experience His grace and freedom.
Grace. If you have been a Christian for any length of time, that word isn’t new to you. But what’s really so amazing about grace? Join Luke and Preshan as they revisit and reflect on this incredible theme that’s unique to Christianity.
Everyone knows the feeling of fear. The same goes for anxiety, with alarming statistics to show for it. What should a believer’s perspective be on these issues? Ps Nic, Matt and Preshan uncover the Bible’s prescription for fighting fear.
Trusting God is a huge theme in the Bible. But what does that look like in our day to day lives? How do I know I am trusting God when things are tough? Join Luke and Preshan as they explore these questions with guest presenter Chanelle.
