When a young Eva Kollisch arrives as a refugee in New York in 1940, she finds a community among socialists who share her values and idealism. She soon discovers ‘the cause’ isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Little does she know this is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to activism and her determination to create radical change in ways that include belonging, love and one's full self. In addition to Eva Kollisch’s memoirs Girl in Movement (2000) and The Ground Under My Feet (2014), LBI’s collections include an oral history interview with Eva conducted in 2014 and the papers of Eva’s mother, poet Margarete Kolllisch, which document Eva’s childhood experience on the Kindertransport. Learn more at www.lbi.org/kollisch . Exile is a production of the Leo Baeck Institute , New York | Berlin and Antica Productions . It’s narrated by Mandy Patinkin. Executive Producers include Katrina Onstad, Stuart Coxe, and Bernie Blum. Senior Producer is Debbie Pacheco. Associate Producers are Hailey Choi and Emily Morantz. Research and translation by Isabella Kempf. Sound design and audio mix by Philip Wilson, with help from Cameron McIver. Theme music by Oliver Wickham. Voice acting by Natalia Bushnik. Special thanks to the Kollisch family for the use of Eva’s two memoirs, “Girl in Movement” and “The Ground Under My Feet”, the Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College and their “Voices of Feminism Oral History Project”, and Soundtrack New York.…

×Hi, if you're working on an idea you love and want to succeed, things can feel pretty dark and discouraging at times. In this episode I want to talk out some of the anxiety and emotions I've been feeling and what I think a startup really is.
In today's episode we cover why the internet is stupid 😆 Topics include: How the attention required to really enjoy the internet can't be regained by being on it... Why everyone on the internet flocks to one of only a few social networks... Why creating things has gotten a lot harder because of the internet... The attention economy and how it benefits the internet and the individual, but also hurts relationships at the same time... How will the internet change a year from now? This episode was inspired by a squirrel obstacle course video by Mark Rober: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFZFjoX2cGg…
What's it like to start a startup? In this episode, I talk honestly about what fuels me as well as my struggle with anxiety. I also do some thinking about Remake's story and audience.
Today we talk about the global network and what it looks like from the perspective of an indie maker
This episode we talk about how front-end frameworks encourage an unhealthy idea of perfection that you will never reach
A discussion of modern web applications and their shortcomings, as well as a proposed solution in the Remake framework
In this episode we talk about time, experience, reality, and why founders need to be a little blind. I can get a little philosophical sometimes and in this episode I go overboard!
Today we talk about what it takes to learn really quickly, and why the world needs a better way of building and deploying web apps
In this episode I discuss some creative and controversial ideas that go against the status quo, but would allow you to create your web app prototype more quickly
