Send us a text Happy Happy Happiest New Year Mayhem Crew! We’re sliding out of the most frenetic month of the year (yes this episode was prerecorded right in the thick of it - the weekend before Christmas) … and you can tell we’re feeling it. Have gecko - will travel. Who knew we’d be debating the aspects of proper moisture for DSP. And speaking of resident animals - have you had a chance to see the most recent porch puppy nonsense with the plants? How many of you travel with pets? This episode is full on “we listen and we don’t judge”. We spill all of our pre travel and post travel weirdness. Your crew is the mayhem crew but we’ve got major OCD/ obsession around travel and cleanliness. From the produce, to the laundry - tell us, how do you leave for vacation? Which one of us has a counter cleaning obsession? And which one of us will make the bed with someone still in it? Somewhere between pythons and house floods - it’s the blind leading the blind over here on house prep. Tell us - what is the rule with shutting water off when you leave your home. Because we share a real story - and unlock a new fear. And since we’re talking about packing - and homes - can we please vent about the storage of kitchen tools. Somewhere between the fact that every vegetable and fruit has its own “slicer”… or masher, I mean c’mon. Who can store all of this? Do we just start picking which fruits and veggies are important to us and toss the rest - how are all of yall handling this? And then how - after contemplating “stuff” did we end up picking up a new hobby and talking about flea markets, to round out this conversation? Mayhem. Send us a text We’re not thirsty - we’re hungry - and that came straight from your girl Jenny. Wrote that down. We start hungry. Jersey Mike’s hungry. Have you ever found yourself craving a sandwich just because you saw it on a billboard. We explore our quirky fascination with food advertisements and the surprising influence they have over our taste buds. From the giant arches of McDonald's to the rustic charm of Cracker Barrel, we are billboard sluts. The magic of the billboard is long term lore. Never overlook the impact of large scale impact in your marketing plan. Have y’all heard of this family photos/ Cracker Barrel trend —it's all about adding a little mischief to the mundane! From chicken phillys, to the chicken tenders - corn bread, and grits … the beauty of the smash burger. We told you we are hungry, hold on people because tis the season. If you’re looking for permission to bring premade treats to your holiday gatherings - look no further. Not only does a potluck make us a little nervous … but there’s nothing quite like finding a hair in your mashed potatoes. Three cheers for the families that grab a few grocery goods and re plate like they spent a few hours working on it. We spending a little time on personal milestones and the lessons learned from navigating the complexities of life - good manners at a potluck, and an honest discussion on personal growth, the art of being your own health advocate, and the power of manifesting dreams. We’re knee deep in considering our word for 2024 - and as a result - deep in reflection. We’re committing to journaling - to feeling big feelings - to manifesting and then, being open and faithful to whatever comes our way. We’re not quite ready to leave “more” and “faith” behind - but in classic mayhem fashion, we’re excited for continued growth … but in the meantime there’s a new podcast queen - Kylie Kelcie arrives on Spotify and Apple with her new podcast “Not Gonna Lie” blowing top podcasters like Joe Rogans numbers away - man we love a girl who shows up in full authenticity. Heck yes. Team Kylie and Jason for the messy win. For more mayhem, be sure to follow us: Insta @marketingandmayhem YouTube @MarketingMayhemPod And don't forget to leave us a 5 star review! Send us a text ** Not a kiddo friendly episode ** We chat cheering traditions and Christmas magic and yall know who actually brings those to life … We are on the cusp of Christmas Eve hoes - how is everyone feeling? From farm animals to excessive shopping and the panic about how quickly December is flying by … a friendly reminder that we’re all in this together. From dark roots to depth - to forgotten eyebrows - here’s to the friends who watch every reel you send - and the ones who answer your phone calls and facetime calls. Those are the real friendships. And let’s be done telling people they “look” or “sound tired”. What we don’t need this time of year, on top of sleepless nights - is added insecurity. Skip the observations people - it’s unnecessary. On top of the emails - teacher gifts - coaches gifts - a full cvs receipt length list of to dos … we both have host houses for tiny Christmas elves. Hear our theory on why some houses have one - some don’t - and ultimately the nightly debacle that is this little mischief maker. We love them of course but who’s idea was it to add more expectations to an already heavily weighted holiday? But this episode - is a marketing episode … and guess who we talk branding over - the big man himself: Santa. This one is sure to give you a laugh as you reign in the last week before the holiday - and don’t be afraid to joke on social with us. And we take a detour to mouthwash and water picks - and this folks is why we called it mayhem. Send us a text We are starting to talk about the new year on the same day that we close out a full year of episodes. It’s our season finale - cheers to a full year of episodes. And - as a fun little treat because Christmas - we brought back a special guest as promised. Our resident life coach Jennifer Sisk join us for a really healthy conversation about the holidays, setting and resetting expectations for yourself and then also exploring your own boundaries, this holiday season and heading into the new year. As we recount our adventures with holiday preparations, Jennifer sprinkles her signature humor and cheer, making this episode a thoughtful mix of merry and personal growth. The three of us are all having very different holiday experiences this year, in fact, one of us has even made the executive decision that putting the tree up conflicts with how many other things they have already committed to this season and it makes perfect sense to us, but it will be a really good experience for everyone else to hear her why. After all, the December season is full of pressure and traditions and family and often times a lack of boundaries, where is the line between compromise and Christmas? We underscore the importance of adjusting holiday efforts to align with one's state of mind, ensuring the season is a source of joy and comfort rather than stress. Family gatherings don’t have to be a battlefield for your peace of mind. We uncover practical strategies to maintain emotional resilience during challenging interactions, focusing on setting healthy boundaries and acknowledging others' perspectives without compromising your own well-being. With insights into overcoming mental barriers and fostering self-belief, the episode encourages you to harness the power of journaling and self-care, empowering you to end the year with confidence. Whether it's choosing a guiding word for the year or navigating emotional boundaries, we explore how intentional living can fuel personal growth and happiness. Send us a text November shot us out of a cannon - and we're left with the shortest Thanksgiving to Christmas season in a long time … how are you late decorators feeling? We talk holiday stress, the art of the “rephrase”, baked goods and the stress of self care. Yes. Stress. While some of y’all love the downtime - we stress over sitting still. Pie whiplash - we have pie whiplash. Every holiday season there’s a moment where both of us realize there’s nothing left to do but get our hands really dirty and get in the weeds - this time - it’s get in the flour. 281 times. Speaking of weeds, when did our kids start wearing adult clothes? How did this happen so fast? Don’t even get us started on how we’re surviving on espresso martinis - but we’ve abandoned our coffee pots … when we said mayhem, we meant it. What we’re not split on: grits. Give us the bougie ones - give us the ones with a square of American cheese - any kind of cheesy grits and we’re your girls. Now that we think about it - we really do put the “gritty” in Gritty Gal Marketing. Food wise and work ethic. We end this episode with three wise men of brunch - fontina, prosciutto, and pizza (or something like that). And the three wise women of New Year’s resolutions - Kirsten from Raising Marriage, Jennifer Sisk (our resident life coach), and Kelsey Lincoln from Enneagram with Kelsey - announcing they will all be back in the next coming months to help us prepare for and tackle the rest of December and January while we all start to think about keywords and resolutions that will help us grow (not ones that will help us shrink). Send us a text *Head up listeners - this episode is a little less kid friendly than our typical episodes so maybe don’t give this one a listen in a full car! Which one of us recently spent the night shoulder to shoulder with a celebrity? Here’s one guess. It wasn’t the one that said all she wants for Christmas was to sit on Santa‘s lap. This episode has us observing presence and presents … and a good old fashioned Christmas (the ones we grew up with). We are back braving the online dating scene because the content is too good to skip. They’re showing us their muscles and we are asking to see their therapy bills. You’ll laugh and cringe at our tales of swiping on Hinge, including the hilarity of matching with a familiar face – yikes. We are giving him a hall pass and chalking this one up to “men really pay zero attention," because how awkward would it be to date a friend‘s ex-husband? That’s a no for us. I mean, let’s be honest. You heard us working on boundaries all year. We’ve gotta have a few by now right? And it’s Thanksgiving day – so we are sharing the pandemonium of juggling family gatherings and school commitments. But also we take a second to express how truly thankful for this podcast and you listeners we really are. You have pushed us so much this year and we’ve grown so much and we’ve had such incredible guests because of the fact that you’re tuning in every week and that means the world to us! We also take a minute - a trip if you will - down memory lane, but the Marketing version. We dive into our favorite 90s commercials - from Campbell’s chicken noodle soup melting the snow off a boy who just came in from playing outside, Ronald McDonald on the skating rink, the Hershey kiss commercial, which we know, and love, the Oreo cookie commercial, where the young boy falls asleep before Santa makes it. And then, of course we start in on our favorite brands and the heartwarming magic of holiday to kids and adults alike. They always seem to know how to tug at the heartstrings. Even the California raisins, yes, we said it. We are California raisins - years old There really is nothing like the classic joys of the Macy's parade, or watching Santa honestly at the very end, and all of the joy Christmas movies will bring us over the next few weeks. From the classic vintage TV shows, to the memories and traditions that we are creating now with our own families (cue the modern Thanksgiving dinner) - we reflect on how these cherished memories deepen our connections with family and friends. Whether it's a sweet note scribbled on a napkin or a spontaneous "mushy attack," we're reminded that the simple expressions of love and gratitude truly make the season bright. Send us a text They should invent a week in November that doesn’t drain the life out of you - from pink Christmas Trees to piles of laundry, are we all simultaneously drowning AND bringing heaps of holiday magic to the masses. It’s been awhile since we had a catch up session - we’ve celebrated two kids birthdays, taken a trip to Florida, a trip to NYC, hosted a color run and adopted a gecko. What. Is. Happening. David S Pumpkins - welcome to the family. An 8 inch gecko with a tiny bit of Stockholm syndrome as he drives a Barbie car, and wears a beret in his first weeks of adoption. I mean - he’s got a treadmill in the form of a lazy susan … and 30 days ago we weren’t even he was joining us. Just when you think these kids can’t break the iPad addiction - they never like they’ve never befored. And we’re not done there. We tackle one of life’s most existential north vs south questions. Is it PEE-can or Pe-CAHN? Help. Which one of us is headed to a costume party for everyone’s favorite holiday movie - Christmas Vacation? And which Christmas movie is your favorite? While we’re at the crossroads of wild situations we’ve gotten ourselves into, have you ever had to bear the shame of wearing the paper thong? Be. Honest. One of us is a frequent flyer and one is a newbie - but both beg the question … never have I ever? Er … Friendly reminder - you can be thankful and exhausted. We are both. Send us a text What if the key to thriving as a female athlete lies in embracing your inner strength rather than chasing external validation? Join us for an eye-opening conversation with Eden Morris, a registered dietitian and certified intuitive eating counselor, as she unpacks her journey in the world of health and wellness. With a rich background in psychology and nutrition, Eden illuminates the challenges female athletes face, from under-fueling linked to Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) to the societal pressures surrounding body image. Her story of moving beyond diet culture to become a champion for food freedom and self-care offers valuable insights for anyone striving to balance performance with personal well-being. Eden’s candid reflections on the role of coaches in shaping young athletes’ relationships with food and body image serve as a powerful reminder of the impact supportive mentorship can have. Together, we address self-limiting beliefs, family dynamics, and the importance of setting boundaries to foster healthier relationships with ourselves and others. Through personal anecdotes and listener stories, we navigate the complexities of holiday eating dynamics and societal expectations, encouraging a wholesome approach to nourishment that celebrates inner health over aesthetics. As we round out our discussion, Eden shares her experiences navigating the dating world post-divorce, highlighting the importance of authenticity and self-confidence. The journey of redefining health and self-worth is ongoing, influenced by cultural narratives and personal growth. Tune in to explore how embracing intuition and community support can transform both body and mind, leaving behind the shackles of societal expectations. This episode promises a transformative perspective on nourishing your body and embracing your true self in all its diversity. Send us a text We love a guest, I mean, we love, love, love a guest, but this is our first life coach and while we have shared vulnerable things in the past, this episode is easily the most vulnerable, and it very much will resonate with our listeners and women in general. We can’t think of a more empowering conversation or a more validating conversation than this one. Jennifer Sisk joins us all the way from Greer, SC to talk societal conditioning shape, trauma impact, the lies we tell ourselves, self-esteem and confidence. How do we identify and ultimately overcome the false beliefs rooted in childhood to rebuild self-esteem chipped away by consistent self-neglect, this episode takes a deep dive into the complexities of personal growth. Jennifer shares her insights on how societal pressures and personal experiences impact self-worth and introduces the concept of the "slow drip" effect, where minor relationship infractions accumulate over time to cause emotional damage. Our conversation stresses the need for setting boundaries, embracing authenticity, and understanding both our own and others' roles in maintaining or disrupting these dynamics. And ultimately the self forgiveness that comes with deciding that when a person has crossed your boundaries maybe that relationship isn’t healthy for you and that’s OK to question. Embrace the transformative power of authenticity and self-care as we highlight the courage it takes to break free from outdated stereotypes and societal expectations. With humorous anecdotes about everyday embarrassments and a candid exploration of relationships, we emphasize the importance of therapy and self-awareness in the journey of self-discovery. This episode is a heartfelt testament to living unapologetically and recognizing the universal nature of personal struggles, encouraging listeners to laugh, learn, and grow with each experience. Send us a text Happy Halloween - and you know what that means - tomorrow November 1 is Christmas. So Merry Christmas - and don’t even get twisted over it because one of us still has their table set from last Christmas, so you’re barking up the wrong tree. And while we are at it - let’s talk lights. LED white, warm white or color - which one of us throws out their lights after every Christmas to avoid the dead light drama, and stay tuned for the greatest Christmas lights life hack. Here on Mayhem, we take Santa’s holiday serious. And since we’re talking LED - let’s talk gyno office lighting. No one wants to be able to see the cheeseburger they ate in the third grade - while wearing a paper gown, and fighting for a shred of dignity, cmon. And then there’s the entire conversation about time management because nothing feels more like cattle than being shoved into cold offices, and then sitting there for upwards of an hour, while you wait for seven minutes of someone’s distracted time. Okay, rant over. For now. Rest assured not every practitioner is like this though - and we have a local favorite. Our girl Stephanie at CHS Hormone is changing both of our lives and ultimately the way the conversation sounds around hormones and hormone therapy. She is a unicorn among practitioners. Todays real topic - the work force - with us in it … we unpack our work history. From barbecue joints, to ice cream parlors, Blockbuster, and science warehouses. We get real about steel toe boots, about how much barbecue we’ve consumed on the clock, water pills and our favorite things about late night inventory. And ultimately some of the lifelong relationships that we've built at each of these jobs. And of course we get sidetracked along the way somewhere between Olive Garden endless breadsticks and why does work out sweat on a man smells so good? And you’re welcome to disagree, but we probably won’t believe you. Assuming it’s pheromones, but if one of you guys has a better answer, please let us know. What can we say - that’s amore (listen, you’ll understand). MSN, RN Stephanie Donovan - at CHS Hormone in Mt. Send us a text We’re pushing the boundaries today and we’ve got help! The queen of not holding back - SARA WILES - is joining us. We don’t need a warm-up for this one, even though the three of us have never spoken outside of Instagram she jumps right into the mayhem. In fact she kicks us off by asking if we want her introduction in the form of “ trauma version or the business version “ … spoiler alert, we got both. The three of us tackle dog diarrhea, male skincare routines, online triggers, “queef gate” and “soaking” in search of the existential question - how much failure “makes” an entrepreneur. Safe to say we don’t know a single entrepreneur who’s gotten away without failure - so inevitably the conversation always turns to - how did you fail, what did it look like, and what parts are funny now? And ultimately, why is it so freeing to share this stuff? Does everyone else just feel a huge weight lifted when you get to laugh at some of the nonsense you’ve experienced or even accidentally created? Even if it is just eating tacos upside down with a few friends? Who is she? Sara is the founder and CEO of The Start and Grow Co - leading the industry in Virtual Assistant training. But at one time - she had the dream to be a yoga teacher - she talks about the first time she invested in additional training - and the challenges of bringing up dream after dream to your friends and family - when you’ve failed in front of them. The risk. The reward. And ultimately the growth. Something we can all relate to. Sara brings a “life first, business lens” to her work style, her trainees, and today’s podcast. She says it in her introduction, but the way she weaves through today’s recording, is such a testament to that philosophy. You really get to experience who she has personally and then also who she has professionally. And after all, aren’t we just kidding ourselves when we say that we’re two different people ( at home and at work?). The three of us share a very special and vulnerable common denominator (one we’re becoming obsessed with). The freedom in being allowed to show up as who you are authentically and creating a space around you for others to be understood and to do the same. But we are left with one question. Which one is more embarrassing? The mermaid queef or the fact that it could’ve been interpreted as a fart? Sara Wiles - CEO and founder of The Start and Grow Co. Send us a text We kick off today with a song … and a puppy. Breton “Bret”, Raebecca’s boxer cohost is officially home in Charleston. All things pets for our intro this Thursday - begs the question though, should we start adding “things Tiny ate” to our social media? From a bootie (high heel), faux coral to a fascia blaster Jenny’s rescue pup has been on a feeding frenzy that rivals shark week. Better question - are we letting our dogs in our beds … or? How did your mom’s personal style influence yours? We unpack our parents habits - everything from makeup, the art of getting “done up”, and our daily athleisure attire. From a linemen to a vet tech with an art based business - one of us grew up with a mom who gets ready daily … and this host doesn't. And the other grew up with a mom who doesn’t wear daily makeup … and this host always wears makeup. Ultimately this turns into a teaching moment when Raebecca is out of town with her two littles to pickup the puppy baby. With two restaurant options, and limited outfit choices - they headed to the upscale restaurant in hoodies and leggings and had the times of their lives. And what happens when you realize you wear the same shoe size as your daughter … because it’s happening quickly and it’s both terrifying and incredible. And then, and then, there’s the Spanx heel … which takes on a left hand turn into price point, branding and what happens if you alienate your more curious clients with one or the other. Here’s one we want to hear back from y’all about - team closed doors vs open doors - what does it mean ?! Literally and figuratively - one of our hosts keeps all her doors open and lights on, and the other is the opposite in pursuit of peace. And straight into holiday baking - “I made it, had a breakdown, bon apetite ”. What IS the SECRET to trim gingerbread men? Come clean - we want to know how yours don’t turn to sumo. The stress and pressure of holiday baking - is it worth it? What do your traditions look like? Chex mix trash, to grandmas cookies, to popcorn wreaths and chocolate cake … we’re going to ease you into the holidays whether you want us to or not … and it’s not even on purpose. 👠We talk the new shoe, SNEEX - have you seen these? 🍴Jenny's favorite Chex mix recipe 🍰The Chocolate Fudge Bundt Cake Jenny mentions For more mayhem, be sure to follow us: Insta @marketingandmayhem YouTube @MarketingMayhemPod And don't forget to leave us a 5 star review! Send us a text We love a woman who knows what she wants - especially for her birthday. No guessing games here - which host entered the chat in a brand new look - “soft autumn”. What is in a color analysis - and how fast does it take us to say “we don’t have to do everything she says”? From Juicy Couture throwbacks to the Tim Allen “The Santa Clause” red sweatsuit, we are talking our favorite things on Amazon prime right now, because you’ve got a week until prime days and we have a shopping problem. Let’s just be honest. And in typical overshare fashion - since we’re both a little slutty for a pedi - when was the last time you got carried away with your shower pedi? It happens to the best of us. Last week we were sharing our favorite things from Costco but this week, we dig deep into our most most recent Amazon purchases that we just can’t live without. From denim crop tops, black heels (and the reminiscing of some of our favorite pairs), travel jewelry cases, Westin essential oils and a diffuser - to Moroccan rugs and glitter freckles. We’re getting real about our shopping habits and game changers. We end with a convo about our furriest friends. You live for our bulldog cohost - and the adventures of Tiny’s rescue last fall … which cohost is considering adding another bundle of … mayhem … to their home? After all - what’s one more responsibility? And in finale - a happiest birthday to Jenny - and a happy 1 year podcasting to Marketing & Mayhem … what a difference a year makes. Send us a text One day, it will hit you. The thing that you want to be when you grow up and it’s probably not going to happen when you’re age 8, or when you’re 18, maybe not even when you’re 28. Who is to say that our calling comes up by a certain age? We invite one of our favorite bloggers and “influencers” (stay tuned to hear her take on this), Christina from @cmon.mama (Instagram) on the podcast today to talk, motherhood, relationships, and finding your true calling This conversation is so near and dear to our hearts - because her online journey started with a blog about her own motherhood journey, simple tricks that she found that she loved, sharing every day, trials and tribulations of being a mother and then navigating a pandemic. Everything from period panties to her favorite grape slicer. And now she’s writing a book. And not just any book, a spicy book. And you know as listeners and followers, we love ourselves, a good romance. But we share an incredible moment on air as the three of us talk about how spice actually happens in real life, and the kind of relationship that warrants it . From rainbow jackets to teaching your kids to have a diverse palette, we celebrate her first decade as a mom, one another, and ultimately the spirit of motherhood. From school volunteer opportunities, to our own personal thoughts about influencers and how we like to be influenced. And our favorite 2 ingredient pumpkin muffin (mumpkin) recipe. The three of us get together to share some of our biggest learnings, and our proudest moments. And of course, we tackle the topics that are mainstays in motherhood – food Olympics, prioritizing self-care, and the art of slowing down, teaching our kids confidence and giving them the freedom to embrace their authentic selves (often at the same time we are learning bow to give ourselves the grace to do this). And if we’re lucky enough - we might just get to be beta readers for her novel!
