When a young Eva Kollisch arrives as a refugee in New York in 1940, she finds a community among socialists who share her values and idealism. She soon discovers ‘the cause’ isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Little does she know this is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to activism and her determination to create radical change in ways that include belonging, love and one's full self. In addition to Eva Kollisch’s memoirs Girl in Movement (2000) and The Ground Under My Feet (2014), LBI’s collections include an oral history interview with Eva conducted in 2014 and the papers of Eva’s mother, poet Margarete Kolllisch, which document Eva’s childhood experience on the Kindertransport. Learn more at www.lbi.org/kollisch . Exile is a production of the Leo Baeck Institute , New York | Berlin and Antica Productions . It’s narrated by Mandy Patinkin. Executive Producers include Katrina Onstad, Stuart Coxe, and Bernie Blum. Senior Producer is Debbie Pacheco. Associate Producers are Hailey Choi and Emily Morantz. Research and translation by Isabella Kempf. Sound design and audio mix by Philip Wilson, with help from Cameron McIver. Theme music by Oliver Wickham. Voice acting by Natalia Bushnik. Special thanks to the Kollisch family for the use of Eva’s two memoirs, “Girl in Movement” and “The Ground Under My Feet”, the Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College and their “Voices of Feminism Oral History Project”, and Soundtrack New York.…

×My, what a short month is February, which means it’s time for another special episode of “On Stage Now”, where we feature a cover/remix musician and their works. This month, we’re featuring JemyMusic (real name: Jemy Hiiragi). She’s an electronic musician, keyboardist, and performer. She posts on her YouTube channel videos of her covers and remixes of video game music, along some original compositions. On another social platform, Jemy has a diary in which she posts her drawings. Jemy has contributed to a couple of remix albums (“Music from Contra” and “Contra: Operation Galuga Retro Remix”). Prepare to be entertained and amazed by JemyMusic and her remixes and covers… JemyMusic [Jemy Hiiragi] ( Personal Website , YT , Instagram , ArtPal , BC , Feed Me Coffee! ) “Contra – Waterfall Stage” – [Contra] – composed by Konami Kukeiha Club “Super Mario Bros 3 – Athletic Overworld” – [Super Mario Bros. 3] – composed by Koji Kondi “Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon – Secret Mine” – [Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon] – composed by Chad York, Darren Radtke, Mike Peacock “Super Mario Kart – Rainbow Road” – [Super Mario Kart] – composed by Soyo Oka “Battle Out Run” – [Battle Out Run] – composed by IPPO (Izuko Numata) “Castle of Illusion – Water Temple” – [Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse] – composed by Tokuhiko Uwabo, Shigenori Kamiya “Shatterhand NES – Area B” – [Shatterhand] – composed by Iku Mitzutani “Rush’n Attack NES” – [Rush N’ Attack] – composed by Konami Kukeiha Club “Dragon Spirit: The New Legend NES – Area 2 Volcano” – [Dragon Spirit: The New Legend] – composed by Shinji Hosoe “Kirby’s Dream Land 3 SNES – Ripple Field” – [Kirby’s Dream Land 3] – composed by Jun Ishikawa “Castlevania NES – Vampire Killer” – [Castlevania] – composed by Kinuyo Yamashita Outro: “The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past – Kakariko Village” – [The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past] – composed by Koji Kondo, covered by JemyMusic YouTube playlist Discord channel Source…
These are hopeful songs about a better tomorrow. Special thanks for this episode goes out to: Fellow VGM podcaster Jameson of barSILENCE podcast for contributing cover art. You can and should find barSILENCE wherever you download podcasts, and check out his website at barSILENCE.com. BokiBokiPixelArt for the show logo. You can find him on Twitter @BokiPixelart. During the show, I mentioned the CRT Soundsystem episode about Quintet’s Heaven and Earth trilogy of Super NES games: Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma. You can find that episode (and all that cool music) at https://creators.spotify.com/pod/show/crtsoundsystem/episodes/049---Quintets-Heaven--Earth-Games-e2m6mok/a-abekg3o . If you want to reach me, I’m most active on Bluesky as @shujinacademy.bsky.social. For now, you can also find me on Threads or Instagram as ShujinAcademyVGMClub. I’m on Mastodon at @ShujinAcademyVGMClub@mastodon.coffee, and my username on Discord is ProfessorTom. All episodes of the show are posted to my YouTube channel, which you can find by searching for Shujin Academy VGM Club. Links to everything are available on my LinkTree at https://linktr.ee/shujinacademy . Please leave me a five star rating on iTunes or Spotify or wherever you’re finding this episode. New episodes are released once or twice a month depending on how often I get them done, and they premiere on Thursday mornings on your favorite podcatcher and on 8beats.co, the internet's number one game music radio station. My show is also featured on Terra Player, the cool app that’s a destination for gaming podcasts and other content, so you can check me out there. Finally, if you just can’t get enough of me, I’m also voicing esports reporter Samson Escapades on audio drama How Much in Bison Dollars?, which you can hear on Spotify and FGC Radio. If you’re listening on Spotify, please be aware that they’ve pulled a few of my episodes before. There’s a non-zero chance that they’ll eventually pull my entire podcast, as they’ve done with a few other game music podcasts, so I’d strongly suggest you subscribe elsewhere to be sure you can get all of the Professor Tom goodness you crave. Support us on Patreon for higher bitrate downloads and bonus episodes. Just back with another mini episode. I'm gonna try to do one of these every 2 months this year to see how it goes. I'd love to justify doing more episodes a year and I thought that Patreon had stretch goal type things but I guess they don't anymore, but I'm not gonna pimp the Patreon too much though it's definitely a factor in how much I'm likely to do more. I'm not interested in gating episodes behind a paywall but if you like the show at least consider throwing us a couple of dollars a month and I'd be able to justify doing more episodes like this on a more regular schedule. A Reminder also that the Patreon feed does have bonus episodes for free that aren't on the main feed, I'm only siloing those off because Spotify is funny about episodes that are more music than discussion. The machinery of time has been jammed, but it has still managed to plop out another wonderful episode full of corrosive ear candy. On this date, February 21, 1986, “The Goonies” video game was released for Nintendo’s Famicom (Family Computer); it was later ported and released on the computer (PC-8801, X1, MSX), for the arcade (VS. System, Playchoice-10), and the Famicom Disk System. The game was based on the film of the same name, which was released in the United States on June 7, 1985. It follows the adventures of one member of the Goonies trying to save the rest of the game while avoiding the Fratellis. Today, we’re celebrating the release of the game with (sadly) two original tracks and their covers and arrangements. Of course, we’ll get to hear that theme song from the movie, “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough” Prepare to run through the restaurant, traverse the caverns, and finally reach the pirate ship to rescue the gang! The Goonies/Walkthrough (StrategyWiki) Intro and BGM: “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough” – composed by Cyndi Lauper, Stephen Broughton Lunt, and Arthur Stead, with vocals by Cyndi Lauper.
