Today I want to tell you about Jayne Mansfield and the mandate for tractor trailers to be equipped with the rear bumper bar.

Jayne Mansfield was a very iconic American actress, singer, nightclub entertainer, and Playboy Playmate. A sex symbol of the 1950s and early 1960s while under contract at 20th Century Fox, Mansfield was known for her well-publicized personal life and publicity stunts. Her film career was short-lived, but she had several box-office successes and won a Theatre World Award and a Golden Globe Award. While this is well and good this episode is not about her resume, this will be about her death and how that led to government regulations to have tractor trailers be equipped with a rear bumper bar.
