EPISODE SUMMARY

In 1970, Pittsburgh' Dock Ellis pitched a no-hitter against the San Diego Padres. He said he was trippin' on acid while he did it.

In 1986, the fog rolled into Toronto's Memorial Stadium and then a weird thing happened. Kelly Gruber turned a routine fly ball out into an inside the park home run.

In 2003, Tom Watson and caddy Bruce Edwards turned back the clock for an inspirational round during the US Open.

In 1930, a shot below the belt gave Max Schmelling the Heavyweight Boxing title.

And in 2011, Jenson Button went from worst to first to win the Canadian Grand Prix.

STEVE WHITE BIO

I've worked for a few television stations in North Carolina doing sports reporting and anchoring before transitioning to voiceover in 2015.

'This Day in Sports History' evolved from a lifetime of watching, listening to, and going to ballgames, reading books, magazines, and newspaper articles about my favorite teams and sports heroes. It's not only a labor of love but a voyage of discovery, finding those forgotten tidbits or fascinating things I never knew.
