Quando vengono a trovarmi amici dall'Australia qui a Cagliari, per me è sempre una festa, un'occasione bellissima. Perché sì, perché ho molti amici lì, molti carissimi amici. Ci sentiamo tramite internet, ma non è la stessa cosa.
Poi vederli è soprattutto la felicità che mi dà poter far vedere a loro il posto dove io vivo, portarli in giro. Ecco, questo è successo ieri quando Gaetano e Susanna sono passati da Cagliari. This gentleman then started chatting, asking us where are you from? And what are your names? And what do you do? And this and that, and he is a very nice gentleman who basically told us his life, when he realised that my two friends spoke yes Italian but not very well and that they were from Australia, he started saying ah that's nice, I want to speak in English, and he started speaking in English.
So we asked, but where did he learn English? Ah, well, because I've been away two years, I've been, where was it that had been I don't remember, somewhere in Germany. Here, two years he was a waiter in Düsseldorf, then he kept talking and he kept speaking other languages and then he told us that he did two more years as a waiter in Switzerland, then he was in France, then he had been I don't remember where, and then he told us that here in Cagliari for many years he had a shoe store where it turned out that my husband went regularly to buy shoes because it was one of the few places where they sold a particular brand of shoes, the Berry I think they were called, yes, I don't know about particular men's shoes made in Italy.
And so we stayed quite a while chatting. I, absolutely, you know I like to talk to everybody, but especially to strangers and my two very happy friends to have this exchange with this gentleman who was so distinguished, so nice, so talkative. And the gentleman was also very happy to chat with us.
