The Denver Nuggets are 11-1 since the All Star break and have sent a message to the league, the people who cover the league and most importantly the Thunder and Wolves. Jeff talks about how and why that matters. The recent rules emphasis in the league has showed one thing ... above all else, everything emanates from how the game is called. Jeff has a little rant about how rules come first before 'skill' in the league. Enjoy the show!…

Michael Porter Jr had 34 points and played consistently well all game as the Nuggets defeated the Portland Trail Blazers Friday night. Jeff talks about the factors of 'why' and says that Mike can duplicate this performance, even when Jamal comes back. Collin Gillespie had himself a career night. He is playing over Jalen Pickett because of one word: trust. Head coach Michael Malone trusts him more than he does Pickett and this is simply the reason why he played. In the long run it probably won't mean much but last night displayed why Malone trusts Gillespie. Enjoy the show!…

When the Nuggets gave Reggie Jackson the Taxpayer MLE in the offseason they, effectively, hard capped themselves and locked in their roster for this season. It depends on if you think their roster is good enough to win a champtionship as is.…

Kobe vs Shaq: Secret Base just put out a great three part series on their relationship. I suggest everyone check it out. Between NBC, Streaming and terrestrial new channels maybe diversification will be the thing that leads the NBA to cover it's own league a bit better? Enjoy the show!…
On the latest Mortcast Jeff talks about how, as a long time CU fan, he just doesn't have the hate for CSU and how it's just the perspective of an old man. Maybe CSU fans should like Deion Sanders presence in CU, as annoying as it is for them, because it means there may be more 'juice' to this series. Enjoy the show!…

On the latest Mortcast on CSG, Jeff ruminates about the concept of playig hard ball with players in trades and how yes, you can do it ... but there's an expiration date for said hard ball. Enjoy the show.…
The Denver Nuggets selected guard Julian Strawther, guard Jalen Pickett and forward Hunter Tyson in the 2023 NBA Draft. The Nuggets big focus this offseason is the Bruce Brown problem and how to solve it (hopefully he returns). In the second half of the podcast Jeff talks about ESPN's extremely poor Draft coverage and how the Worldwide Leader needs to "get with the times" as the NBA moves into an era with more parity. The Denver Nuggets prevailed over the Miami Heat in Game 3, 109-94. The Nuggets didn't exactly "adjust" to the Heat. Did everything they always have ... just did it better than the 4th quarter of game 2. Jeff talks about how Jokic, Murray and Braun came through for the Nuggets and how the Heat look different when they don't hit every shot. In the second half of the podcast Jeff talks about how the NBA is yes, lazy and they want players to go out and get their own endorsements and advertising ... but on the flip side the league desperately WANTS to promote Jokic and he kind of just doesn't want to be promoted. Which create this issue. The best player in the league and the league he plays in don't know how to benefit each other. Enjoy the show!…
The Nuggets lost at home for the first time in these playoffs in a three point loss to the Miami Heat in game 2. In the grand scheme of things it took a massive effort and near perfect 4th quarter to beat the Nuggets so one shouldn't be too worried about the result. However, the post game presser's by Jeff Green and Michael Malone served as a contrast and Jeff talks about how Malone's hot headedness is the worst part of his coaching and how you shouldn't listen to his post game pressers but pay close attention to his post practice and pre game pressers. 1 CSG #593: Nuggets vs Suns preview and the benefit of transparency and accounability from Stan Kroenke 28:58
Today Jeff previews the Nuggets vs. Suns second round matchup. This will be a 1980's type of series with both teams unable to stop the other one. Who will win this offensive war of attrition? Also, Jeff talks about Suns onwer Matt Ishbia announcing that he will air Suns games over the air for free and this seemed interestingly timed on the eve of Nuggets Suns. Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke needs to be accountable and answer questions and he wont. This has been the biggest issue from a catestrophic PR perspective for the Nuggets and Avalanche. Enjoy the show!…

Then Jeff previews the second round series agains the Suns. Is this actually an easier match up for Jokic? We talk about it inside. Enjoy the show!…
The Nuggets dropped game 4 against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night. Not much to take away from the game other than Jamal Murray needs to back off the hero ball and the Nuggets need to play with an extremely fast pace in game 5. Other than that ... it's hard to sweep, folks. Those are just facts. Also, Jeff draws a comparison between this series and on the Nuggets played against the Dallas Mavericks in 2009. Both series the Nuggets went up 3-0. Both lost close games in game 4. Jeff thinks this will end up just like that series did as well. Enjoy the show!…
The Nuggets went into Minneapolis and beat the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 3 of their first round playoff series to go up 3-0. What sets this Nuggets team apart from others? What can we learn from the Nuggets playoff series agains the Warriors last year? In the second half of the podcast Jeff addresses the struggle the national media has in adjusting their narratives. Some of it is the Nuggets own fault, some of it is general media laziness. Also, Jeff talks about what a disgrace it is that the Athletic doesn't have a Nuggets beat writer. They're the #1 seed in the West! Come on. Enjoy the show!…
The Denver Nuggets withstood the Minnesota Timberwolves throwing the proverbial kitches sink of effort at them in the third quarter by establishing a simple fact: They are the better team. On the latest Mortcast on CSG Jeff talks about how the Nuggets made this fact obvious by Jokic being casual, Jamal getting his own and dropping 40 and MPJ establishing the team isn't just Jamal and Jokic in a masterful fouth quarter. Enjoy the show!…
The Denver Nuggets pounded the Minnesota Timberwolves by nearly 30 points in game one of their first round playoff series. Did the Nuggets play possum at the end of the regular season? On the latest Mortcast on CSG Jeff talks about how the Nuggets prioritizing their health over everything else at the end of the season caused us all (including the Timberwolves) to underestimate them. Also, Jeff chides Michael Malone for putting Jokic back in when the Nuggets were up by 30 points. You can't have a Mortcast without Malone criticism. Ha! Enjoy the show!…
On the latest Mortcast, Jeff attempts to recontextualize the Nuggets playoffs misfortune and make the argument that bad luck has hurt them more than lack of talent. Jeff highlights 4 such moments (among many). Also, Jeff talks about how Joel Embiid can't seem to take the W and be happy that he is winning ... interview after interview complaining about how he has been treated. It's not helping him and making people who would otherwise be on his side turn against him. Enjoy the show!…
The sub par play of the Denver Nuggets alarmed some observers down the stretch, but it was clear from the moment the Nuggets defeated the Memphis Grizzlies at home in early March that they would be prioritizing health in the playoffs over consistency in meaninless games. Is that the right strategy? We will find out once the playoffs begin. Also, Jeff discusses how the Milwaukee and Philly games from late March are probably instructive of which Nuggets team can show up in these pressure packed playoff games. Enjoy the show!…
On the latest (very short) Mortcast, Jeff talks about how the NBA's reliance on players promoting themselves abdicates the league's responsibility in promoting it's stars. How this and a bunch of other factors have combined to hurt the visibility of Nikola Jokic. Enjoy the show!

1 CSG #583: How Brian Taylor abruptly quitting ended the first golden era of Nuggets basketball 29:16
In a dramatic but little-known incident in team history, in January of 1978 back up point guard Brian Taylor (who galvonized the Nuggets second unit) didn't show up for one game. In the New York Times the very next day Taylor announced that he was now a free agent. The affect on the Nuggets was profound and was the first in a series of events that eventually derailed the 1970's Golden Era of the Nuggets. Jeff talks about its affect and how the team responded ... or didn't respond. Here's Jeff's interview with Dan Issel from 2017: https://www.spreaker.com/user/milehighsports/csg-278-nuggets-legend-dan-issel-talks-t…

Yes ESPN would rather the Lakers win. Yes the Worldwide Leader is infiltrated by the big player agencies who have their own agendas. Yes David Stern never liked basketball in Denver. None of that matters. On the Latest Mortcast, Jeff talks about how Nuggets fans need to concentrate on two words: Just Win. Nothing cures disrespect by taking that respect by force. Just. Win. Enjoy the show!…
On the latest Mortcast Jeff talks about how player agencies shape coverage at ESPN through influence. The original sin was tying player max deals to All NBA voting or MVP. It left things the NBA cant control (narrative and independent coverage) to being pressured by large player agencies. Jeff also talks about how that shapes the perception of Nikola Jokic and even the Denver Nuggets. Enjoy the show!…
In 1982 the Denver Nuggets were on the verge of being contracted by the NBA, pushed by then NBA lead counsel David Stern. They were on the edge of financial ruin and their consortium of owners couldn't afford to own the team, let alone pay the bills. On today's Mortcast Jeff talks about how "Big Red" came to the Nuggets rescue and created the modern franchise. Enjoy the show! (RIP Red McCombs)…
On the latest Mortcast Jeff talks about the NBA being at a crossroads in 2023 and how it needs to de-couple itself from the corrosive influence of Disney/ESPN and start afresh somewhere else. Along the way Jeff talks about how the league is both smarter and dumber than we think it is and how a similar crisis moment in 2002 led it to sign with ESPN away from NBC. Enjoy the show!…

Michael Porter Junior is going through some stuff right now. We all know the details of what has happened and I think that it would be important for Nuggets fans to understand this and have consideration that he might not be in the best mental shape to play basketball when he returns. In the second half of the podcast Jeff talks about the five greatest Nuggets in their history. Not favorite, but who Jeff believes to be the best ... in order ... in all of Denver Nuggets history. Should drive some nice debate on the ol twitter machine. Enjoy the Show!…
It's been almost 12 years. It's time to forgive and forget Nuggets fans. Carmelo Anthony needs to be given his flowers as a franchise changing player ... which he was. Too much water under the bridge. Too many years. It's time. Lets stop the resentment and give him the love It's about damn time.
With the seeming inability for NBA teams to defend and increasing offensive dominance in the league, Jeff talks about the concept of hand checking. Why over the course of 26 years (from 1979-2005) the league made repeated attempts to curb it and finally made it a strict penalty only after The Malice at the Palace early in the 04-05 season. While this undoubtedly helped out offenses ... it' also made it almost impossible to guard the perimiter on defense. On the latest Mortcast Jeff makes the proposal to allow hand checking to bring some defensive balance back to the league. Enjoy the show!…
Christian Clark of NOLA.com joins Jeff to talk about the state of the New Orleans Pelicans, Zion Williamsons injury, and how the team can survive without such a dominant player. On the latest Mortcast, the last CSG of 2023, Jeff ends the year by talking about how Nikola Jokic is the John Carpenter of the NBA. A man who is putting up numbers and influencing the game in ways that are unpretentious but game changing. Someone who's stamp on the way we play won't be fully appreciated until long after he is done playing. In 2022-23 Jokic is putting up The Thing type numbers and eventually the NBA media and greater NBA world will catch up.…
Post Charlotte Hornets game, Nuggets head coach Michael Malone sounded as unsure of himself has he has in 8 years. On the latest Mortcast Jeff talks about how that is likely a good thing for Malone and how his acknowledgement that HE is part of the problem will help the team going forward. Also, Jeff proposes a radicle rules change the NBA can implement that could give defenses a chance in the league again. Sure to be controversial. Enjoy the show!…
The Denver Nuggets lost to the LA Lakers on Friday night but even worse, their continued slide into Paul Westhead era defensive sukeration continued unabated. Who is the problem? Is it head coach Michael Malone? Is it Nikola Jokic? Is it Bones? Or is this a combination of absolutely everything including the lack of Michaep Porter Junior? Jeff attempts to answer that question. Enjoy the show!…
Jeff harkens back to the 2012-13 57 Win Denver Nuggets team and talks about their home/road split to begin the year (far more severe than this team).
