1 WHY IS MY SONG NOT PLAYING ON THE RADIO - A new way of looking at radio airplay - STUDIO TALK 44 10:56
Radio airplay and radio playlisting has been one of the most frustrating things for South African artists. Music makers feel that they've produced a great song so why are radio stations rejecting it? Why won't radio play my song. Why are radio stations not answering emails and calls? Which leads to questions like, "What will it take to get my song on radio?" or "How can I get my song on radio?" or "How can I get my song on high rotation on radio?" Well in this episode of Studio Talk, I refer to a mindset change that South African music makers need to undergo in order to understand how radio playlisting works in this day and age. This is the audio excerpt from Studio Talk Vlog Episode 44 currently on YouTube. Stay in touch on my social media pages as well: https://www.facebook.com/theinglisman/ https://www.facebook.com/ebinglismusic/ https://twitter.com/Inglisman https://soundcloud.com/inglisman https://www.instagram.com/theinglisman/…
SAMRO hosted the Cape Town leg of their Membership Rules Roundtable at the Kaleidoscope Cafe in Claremont on 10 April 2018. This audio is an extract from my Diary of an Inglisman Vlog Episode 21. Some very interesting talking points emerged from that roundtable discussion. Take a listen to my recap of the order of events.…

This is an extract from Part 6 of my Studio Talk Vlog Series on the SABC 90% SA Music Quota that lasted a little over a year on all SABC radio stations. In the conclusion, I plead with music makers to look at the situation differently. Whether there is a 25% quota or 100% quota, what is more important is that we lose the sense of entitlement we all have when it comes to SA music. I urge you to listen with an open mind as well.…
A little over a year ago, I posted a 6-part vlog series on the 90% SA Music Quota implemented by the SABC that at the time had just come to an end with the exit of the then COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng. At the time, cases of PAYOLA allegedly taking place also came to light. PAYOLA is the unethical practice of bribing music compilers to playlist your music on radio. This is an extract from that episode where I talk about PAYOLA in the SA Music Industry!…

PART 4 goes into more detail about what the mindset should be for young/new artists when heading into studio. And I stress the importance of QUALITY AT EVERY STAGE OF THE SONG PRODUCTION PROCESS!!!…

We move onto PART 2 of the series that I'm calling the YOUNG ARTIST STARTER KIT. I answer the most frequently asked questions from young artists and even parents of young artists who need advice as to what the next step should be after discovering their talent and now wanting to take their art seriously. PART 2 deals with the second phase which I call, "TAKE IT TO THE STAGE!"…
I answer the most frequently asked questions from young artists and even parents of young artists who need advice as to what the next step should be after discovering their talent and now wanting to take their art seriously. This is PART 1 - HONE YOUR CRAFT!!! I also make mention of my preferred choice in terms of voice training, Singing Success by Brett Manning. Visit their website www.singingsuccess.com…
I continue the discussion of MECHANICAL RIGHTS and explain who CAPASSO is and why songwriters, composers & producers should become a member! VITAL INFO!!!
I explain MECHANICAL RIGHTS. It is another revenue stream available to songwriters and composers that's misunderstood and not taken advantage of in South Africa!
I talk about the lack of email etiquette of some upcoming artists when submitting their tracks to radio. YES, the song is important but presentation is the key to at least getting your foot in the door and getting the music compilers and DJ's to actually READ your email. Learn how to construct a professional email when submitting your tracks!…
I explain the difference between a BEATMAKER and a PRODUCER. I recently saw AKA airing his grievances with Tweezy on Twitter and eluded to what the role of a producer is versus a beatmaker so this episode will clarify the distinction as well.
I explain HOW TO WORK OUT ROYALTY SPLITS between you and other songwriters and composers when working on one track!
