Artificial intelligence is evolving at an unprecedented pace—what does that mean for the future of technology, venture capital, business, and even our understanding of ourselves? Award-winning journalist and writer Anil Ananthaswamy joins us for our latest episode to discuss his latest book Why Machines Learn: The Elegant Math Behind Modern AI . Anil helps us explore the journey and many breakthroughs that have propelled machine learning from simple perceptrons to the sophisticated algorithms shaping today’s AI revolution, powering GPT and other models. The discussion aims to demystify some of the underlying mathematical concepts that power modern machine learning, to help everyone grasp this technology impacting our lives–even if your last math class was in high school. Anil walks us through the power of scaling laws, the shift from training to inference optimization, and the debate among AI’s pioneers about the road to AGI—should we be concerned, or are we still missing key pieces of the puzzle? The conversation also delves into AI’s philosophical implications—could understanding how machines learn help us better understand ourselves? And what challenges remain before AI systems can truly operate with agency? If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe and leave us a review on your favorite podcast platform. On the 13th of March 2002, something mysterious was found in Exmoor. It had been a chilly, windy Wednesday morning when a park ranger began his rounds of the Moorland national park. He soon came across a pile of bin bags that had been thrown close to the road. This wasn’t unusual; however, as people would often dump rubbish and sometimes animal remains along this stretch. The ranger began clearing up the bags and assumed they were the remains of some kind of pet. After completing his rounds, he proceeded to the Devon and Somerset Stag Hounds Kennels, where the bones were going to be safely incinerated. But once the bags were opened and searched, a worrying discovery was found - these were the severely decomposed remains of a human body. But who was this person? And how had they ended up there? www.somebodyknowsmore.com YouTube http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/1875188.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/1987020.stm https://www.somersetcountygazette.co.uk/news/920591.mystery-body-to-be-laid-to-rest/ https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-somerset-40286530 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/2246967.stm https://unsolvednews.substack.com/p/the-exmoor-body Support the show Hosted on Acast.
