Comedy is medicine for some. How ironic is it that it comes from some who have the most pain. Comedians from the likes of Redd Fox to George Carlin, Paul Mooney to Richard Pryor, Bernie Mac to Chris Fock have all shared stories of sadness which led to them being a light to the rest of the world via laughter. But to some, comedy isn’t always laughs when it hurts. Is there a such thing of going too far in the world of comedy?
In the years post George Floyd’s murder, the thought of the brutality he experienced is still numbing to many. Is it ever the right time to find levity in such sadness? Comedian Ari Shaffer thought so after the death of the Black Mamba aka Kobe Bryant, and quickly found out how quickly cancel culture can change one’s life. So what will the career of David Lucas be after his “jokes” about Mr. Floyd?
To some, you will always be identified by your darkest moments. One example who may be living this societal norm is Chris Brown. After his domestic violence assault in 2009 against Rihanna, he still faces the ramifications of his actions 15 years later. Is there ever an end to the punishment when you e gone too far? When does society decide forgiveness is warranted, if ever?
We don’t make the rules and would not want that responsibility. But we have an opinion and share it as we always do. Check out episode 163 and join the conversation. LIKE, COMMENT, & SHARE! And don’t forget to subscribe.
