Eric Owusu is better known for supporting musical heavyweights such as Ebo Taylor and Pat Thomas and the Kwashibu Area Band with his energised live drumming performances.

But this seasoned percussionist is making a return to his childhood passion as a singer.

And he’s now fronting his own band Jembaa Groove with co-founder, composer and producer Yannick Nolting.

Eric talks to us about forming the Berlin-based Afro-Soul band during the height of the pandemic, why he infuses Ghanaian languages into his lyrics and where you can see and hear Jembaa Groove this year.

Jembaa Groove’s 'Basa Basa' track from the Susuma album is featured with permission in this episode.
The track comes from the Susuma album from Agogo Records.
If you are based in the UK and would like to see the band, why not enter our competition to win a ticket to one of the shows. To be in with a chance of winning, tell us the name of one of the tracks on the Susuma album by 30 September 2022. Send your answers to akadimagazine@gmail.com and tell us your full name and which gig you can attend.
