×Cutler Wellness Programs, Wellness U., Behind the Whistle, Advancement of Blacks in Sports (ABIS), AthMindset®, PA4WN™Lab, and AthleteTalk are partnering to produce March into Mental Health ’23. #Marchintomentalhealth is a one-week “event” to highlight mental health and wellness at all levels of women’s and men’s college basketball. The goal of this effort is twofold – first to highlight the unique mental health issues pertinent to men’s and women’s college basketball and secondly to encourage college basketball coaches and their teams to engage in mental health check-ins as we approach the end of the season and conference tournaments. Beginning on February 27th2023 these seven national organizations will produce: ● Three daily mental health & wellness messages via Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. ● Two podcasts on Sleep & Rest and Name, Image & Likeness & Financial Health. ● Webinar: “Navigating the Transitions in College Basketball: Athlete Mental Health and Economic Opportunities” Wednesday, March 1, at 7 pm EST via zoom. Beyond the perceptions of NIL are some harsh realities and uncertainties student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and families are navigating. This 60-minute webinar will present the impacts of the Division I Transformation Committee Report, a panel discussion between key stakeholders in collegiate athletics on the mental health toll of transitions, and recommendations for achieving holistic mental health responses to the pressures of this new era of sports. #Marchintomentalhealth will launch on February 26th2023 with a “Tip-Off” featuring the founders from all six organizations in a conversation about college athlete mental health. In addition to the mental health messaging, podcasts, and webinar #Marchintomentalhealth will challenge college coaches to engage in a “mental health check-in” with their teams and post their check-ins (and/or other mental health content) on their social media with the hashtag #Marchintomentalhealth. The effort will culminate on March 5th, 2023, but throughout March to Mental Health will include a “Call for Activation” challenging all college basketball coaches & teams to invest in one mental health check-in, post about the experience and use the #Marchintomentalhealth. The post with the most likes will win a mental health webinar/consultation/talk and access to a mental health video seminar. 1:50:50Dr. Sara Erdner, CMPC is the author of the recently published book, Dear Coach: What I Wish I Could Have Told You, Letters from Your Athletes, where Dr. Erdner asked athletes one question: what do you wish you could have told your coach but never did? Athletes responded to this question via confidential letters, providing a wealth of knowledge for coaches, sport administrators, and all who care for athletes. From heartfelt thank-you letters to painful accusations and everything in between, Dear Coach gives athletes a rare platform in the sports reform debate, beginning a much-needed conversation between athletes and coaches directly. Even so, the communication problems in sport are not just personal, but systemic. Dr. Erdner wrote Dear Coach with the intent to start a much needed conversation so all sport stakeholders can learn how to point sport in a more inclusive and equitable direction for all. Aside from being an author, Dr. Erdner received her Ph.D. in sport psychology from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She currently works as the Coordinator for the M.S. in Coaching (online) degree & as the Assistant Professor of Coaching at Adams State University in Alamosa, CO. As a certified mental performance consultant (CMPC©, #712) through the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), Dr. Erdner also conducts independent mental performance services for a wide variety of performers, which includes working with youth, college, Olympic, and professional athletes. Jen Fry is a native of Arizona, a Division II athlete, and veteran volleyball coach with over 15 years of experience at the collegiate level with coaching stints at Elon University, the University of Illinois (2011 National Runner-Up), Washington State University, and Norfolk State University. She turned social justice educator when she realized there was a need for educating not only our student-athletes of all ages, but the administration, staff, and coaches who train them through an antiracist lens on issues of race, inclusion, intersectionality, diversity, and equity. Lastly, she is working on her Phd in Geography at Michigan State University. Go Green. Social justice education assists everyone in their process of critically thinking of how to become culturally competent, how to self reflect on one’s position, power and privilege, and lastly, how to create an inclusive culture that allows diversity to be a part of the culture not BE the culture. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/behind-the-whistle/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/behind-the-whistle/support…
