Much has been said about the success of the Queensland Greens in Queensland for the Federal 2022 election, with the party picking up seats in Griffith, Ryan and Brisbane as well as securing a second senator for Queensland, joining well-loved Senator Larissa Waters.

Political commentators are now turning their eyes towards the outer suburbs of Brisbane to places like Logan, to find out what the future holds for parties like the Greens and whether the Greens have any chance of success in the future out this way too.

This episode, Tim and Andrea are joined by Dave again, to chat about their experiences volunteering this election, articles they’ve seen written about the Green’s success, and where they believe the other parties went wrong.

Parts of the discussion include:

  • How powerful people’s votes are
  • The complexity of voting preferences between federal divisions
  • The informal vote rate
  • Educating people on the effects of climate change
  • The angry vote for UAP and PHON
  • The game: which do you prefer to gain the last senate seat? Stoker or Hanson?
  • What it means to have our local member now as federal treasurer

For our final episode this season, Tim, Andrea and Dave chose to name 1 big thing each that would help our community rebuild Beyond the Rona (post Federal Election 2022):

  1. Dave: Reconciliation, Treaty, Truth Telling and a First Nations Voice to Parliament so we can move forward as a nation
  2. Tim: Fix the wealth inequality, tax billionaires, provide adequate social services
  3. Andrea: Continue to Educate on STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) in schools and in the community and in free media everywhere so people learn about climate change
