There is much celebration and hoopla about the Governor Hogan's program to spend $700,000,00 to basically demolish what's left of the black community in Baltimore (to hide years blight and neglect after the ravages of the War on Drugs and mass incarceration decimated the city's Black population) to create green spaces, then ensure that wealthy developers get the land (as they will be the only ones in the area with enough capital to do this once the houses are reduced to just land) and develop it for gentrification, using what little TIF bonds are left after Under Armour's Covington Point project(which will tie up ten years of TIFs worth a half billion) to do it. On this episode we discuss an alternative, the successful Dollar House Program, and how the program can revitalize communities for current residents and not push them out for the wealthy developers to do as they wish with Black neighborhoods. We speak with the callers about how this issue connects with the bigger picture of the issues that ail the Black community, and how to alleviate these issues. Originally aired 03/28/2016 on WOLB 1010 AM Baltimore. Tune in every Monday from 2pm -3pm.
