Much has been documented about the role of sexism and racism in reducing opportunities for women and people of color in the corporate world – whether in hiring, compensation, or in advancement to the C-suite and board-level positions or, in the entrepreneurial space, in access to project investments. But, as the song goes, “sisters are doin’ it for themselves” to create and share opportunities in the workforce.

Born in Nigeria and raised in the US, Deborah Choi has been a successful serial entrepreneur for years. With her first startup – launched while she was finishing her degree at the University of Chicago – Deborah landed on Bloomberg BusinessWeek’s top “25 under 25” list. Now living in Berlin, Deborah is the managing director and co-founder of Bosque, a tech-enabled, direct-to-consumer plant startup.

In episode #14 of Campus 10178, the ESMT Berlin podcast, Deborah speaks about the critical role of mentorship, networks, and investment for female founders and women of color in entrepreneurship. As with plants, nurturing growth can yield great results.
