In the rapidly evolving world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), the journey is often marked by both incredible opportunities and significant challenges. Those who pursue careers in STEM not only face the complexities of the disciplines but also the external barriers that come from systemic inequality, lack of representation, and institutional resistance. Leadership in STEM is essential for guiding teams through adversity and fostering inclusive environments, while personal growth through these challenges helps individuals develop the skills they need to succeed. Advocacy, meanwhile, serves as a powerful tool for challenging systemic barriers and ensuring that the future of STEM is more diverse, equitable, and innovative. In this episode, we chatted with three amazing professionals from diverse backgrounds in STEM, Vanessa Penna, PhD - Clinical Project Manager at Telix Pharmaceuticals Limited, Brendan Moore - Senior Process Engineer at Melbourne Water, and Justin Carrero, PhD - Consultant in Inclusion/ Neurodiversity Employment Advisory. In this episode, we dive deep into the personal and professional journeys of these incredible experts as they navigate the unique challenges posed by their backgrounds or identities. Whether you are a student or an experienced scientist, this episode offers empowering insights and actionable advice on overcoming adversity and advocating for a more inclusive future in STEM.
