Being a single mom is arguably one of the toughest, if not the toughest, jobs in the world. Today I want to share with you a story of inspiration from a single mom, who took the meaning of "tough job" to a new level by actually launching a local & national organization, in the midst of her divorce ... without any prior business experience. Now, more than ever, moms around the country are uniting to help their daughters recover from the election upset, and this mom in particular can talk about the steps she is currently taking with her children to provide hope, resilience, and faith in the country's future. Meet Dr. Marika Lindholm, Founder and CEO of ESME, which stands for Empowering Solo Moms Everywhere- a social platform and online community dedicated to single mothers who, whether by choice or circumstance, face the challenge of parenting on their own. Having experienced life as a Solo Mom after a divorce left her parenting her two children on her own and, later, when her new spouse’s work required him to be away for weeks at a time, Marika became aware of the myriad challenges Solo Moms face everyday. A trained sociologist and former professor, she taught classes focused on issues of inequality, diversity, and gender at Northwestern University. Marika brings that passion, focus, and analytical approach to refining the ESME.com platform and growing the ESME Sisters community.
