Hilde Mosse comes from one of the wealthiest families in Berlin and stands to inherit an enormous fortune. But she longs for something more meaningful than the luxurious lifestyle her family provides. So Hilde decides to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. As the Nazis take power in Germany and the Mosse family is forced to flee, Dr. Hilde Mosse lands in New York having nearly lost everything.. She finds her calling treating the mental health of Black youth – and the symptoms of a racist system. In addition to photographs, school records, and correspondence spanning Hilde Mosse’s entire lifetime, the Mosse Family Collection in the LBI Archives includes the diaries she kept between 1928 and 1934, from the ages of 16-22. Hilde’s papers are just part of the extensive holdings related to the Mosse Family at LBI. Learn more at lbi.org/hilde . Bernie was also President Emeritus of LBI and Exile would not exist without his energetic and visionary leadership. We extend our condolences to his entire family. May his memory be a blessing. ×Crisis, what crisis? The pandemic also brings great business opportunities for startups with innovative ideas, explains professor Vareska van der Vrande. Startups that work on digitization or Virtual Reality can accelerate in this pandemic. “Now might be a great time to start your own business”, she states. “The pandemic invites us to be innovative. Especially with the current situation on the job market.”…
Dr. Delia Dumitrica, associate professor Political Communication, takes us through her research on online activism. How do activist groups fare during the corona crisis? Are they able to continue their activities well on social media? And how can we interpret new activism, such as #ikdoenietmeermee, which emerges precisely during the corona crisis?…
More podcast of EUR: https://www.eur.nl/podcasts…
In this episode the topic is: conspiracy theories. How do these increasingly find their way into the mainstream media? And what effect do they have on society? Daniel Trottier, Associate Professor at the Department of Media and Communication of Erasmus University Rotterdam, is our first guest. Currently, he is doing research on the use of digital media for the purposes of scrutiny, denunciation and shaming. On the 25th of November, he and his co-authors will release the Open Access title 'Introducing Vigilant Audiences'. This collection of essays delves into the phenomenon of digital vigilantism, which as the book states: sees digital audiences using social platforms to shape social and political life.
