Manage episode 382058607 series 3500011
In this episode of Facility Voices, David Trask sits down with Michael Terrell, Senior Operations Director of Facilities Management at Liberty University, to discuss Michael’s journey from nuclear power to university facilities management, and the unique challenges he's faced in his role.
Liberty University, founded in 1971, has grown significantly in the past few years, with over seven and a half million square feet of space on its campus, making it one of the largest Christian universities in the nation. In his role as Operation Director, Michael is focusing on improving campus operations and preparing for the future. One of the key initiatives he's working on is implementing an Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS) to replace an outdated Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) that has been in place since 2005.
Michael Also talks about Liberty’s initiatives to sub-meter water, gas, electric, air, and more to better control their utility costs. The conversation touches on the impacts of an aging workforce, retirements, and the difficulties of attracting new talent. Michael shares how they're looking into apprenticeship programs and partnerships with local organizations and universities to address the workforce shortage and provide training to future technicians.
This episode is a must listen for anyone navigating the intricacies of Facilities Management in Higher Education.
