Egypt was at the zenith of its power, having conquered lands far into the north and the east, well into the Mesopotamian valley. The great empire set its magicians and its power against the people of God and paid the price. The most outstanding miracle of the Old Testament era took place at the Red Sea, and the prostitute at Jericho was still talking about it 40 years later, as well as the witchdoctors of Philistia 400 years later.
