Do you have trouble quieting your busy mind and establishing healthy sleep habits? Studies show that the average American does not get enough sleep.
Dr. Funke Afolabi-Brown is a sleep specialist who grew up with a negative connotation around rest. Working all the time was the norm and expectation, which only grew more intense throughout med school and after having children. She became very anxious and her performance in all aspects of life declined significantly, when she had a sudden epiphany to begin setting boundaries with her responsibilities to prioritize rest. She experienced a major transformation in her life!
Sleep actually clears the wasteful deposits that build up in the brain that can cause Alzheimer's, heart attacks and strokes. Our executive function, metabolism, responsiveness, and even our ability to learn and create are dependent on our sleep habits!
Dr. Afolabi-Brown emphasizes that God Himself created rhythms of life. Jesus would step away to rest with His disciples to restore His energy. If the God of the universe rested, how much more do we need rest to reinvigorate ourselves? Establishing a bedtime routine that maximizes our sleep quality is imperative for a healthy, fruitful life.
