Artificial intelligence is evolving at an unprecedented pace—what does that mean for the future of technology, venture capital, business, and even our understanding of ourselves? Award-winning journalist and writer Anil Ananthaswamy joins us for our latest episode to discuss his latest book Why Machines Learn: The Elegant Math Behind Modern AI . Anil helps us explore the journey and many breakthroughs that have propelled machine learning from simple perceptrons to the sophisticated algorithms shaping today’s AI revolution, powering GPT and other models. The discussion aims to demystify some of the underlying mathematical concepts that power modern machine learning, to help everyone grasp this technology impacting our lives–even if your last math class was in high school. Anil walks us through the power of scaling laws, the shift from training to inference optimization, and the debate among AI’s pioneers about the road to AGI—should we be concerned, or are we still missing key pieces of the puzzle? The conversation also delves into AI’s philosophical implications—could understanding how machines learn help us better understand ourselves? And what challenges remain before AI systems can truly operate with agency? If you enjoy this episode, please subscribe and leave us a review on your favorite podcast platform. After Justin Timberlake delivered an unmemorable performance at this past Super Bowl, we, the public, get to experience another bland performance next year - this time from one of the most mediocre and sanitized pop groups, Maroon 5. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/james-totton/support…
Disclaimer: There is a muffled section of this audio: Here is what I said: On ‘The Ringer’ he disses Lil’ Xan, Lil’ Pump, and Lil’ Yachty for making and popularizing mumble rap. Ironically, he uses Lil’ Pump’s flow from his song ‘Gucci Gang’ to mock him. It’s clear that now more than ever that Eminem has turned into the Mr. Wilson of rap music. He’s turned into the “hey, you kids get off my lawn” kind of rapper. Outside of the mumble rappers, he disses Vince Staples with these bars: If I press the issue just to get the anger out/Full magazine could take Staples out. He also dissed NF: It’ll help me get back to myself and she’ll love me/I mailed the broad back and said that if I did that/ I’d just be like everyone else in the industry /especially aN Effing Recovery clone of me. Eminem dissed Staples after he called his 2017 BET cypher trash and that he can do better. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/james-totton/support…

I respond to a shared post about the double standard of mistreatment between Azealia Banks and 50 Cent. The short answer to this is that people sympathize with artists if they make good music no matter how awful of a person they are. Who has more fans? You guessed it, 50 Cent. So naturally more sympathy will go his way while Azealia Banks will keep her focus on trolling and not making good music. I have yet to hear anything good music from her. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/james-totton/support…
Jay-Z and Beyonce release their first collaborative album after scoring a number of hits together in the past. But this time around the content from them just sounds uninspired and lacks any consequences that made their previous albums a lot more relatable. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/james-totton/support…
