Episode 200: "Wolf Mafia 2026!"
Manage episode 453613077 series 2968715
Happy Spooky Wednesday!
We are celebrating our 200th episode this week with special guests Kara Babcock and Stephanie Chow of Prophecy Girls: A Buffy Rewatch Podcast! In case you missed it, they joined us for our 100th episode, where we talked all about vampires. What goes best with vampires? Werewolves. These shapeshifting creatures look human by day, but on the nights where a full moon shines, their animal side takes over! These cryptids have been discussed for years, and the lore varies from culture to culture. We're here to discuss their origins, sightings over the years, and that burning question: "Why are werewolves so hot?"
We want to thank you all for being with us for 200 episodes!
We can't wait for more!
______________________________________________________________________ Kara's Book Recommendations:
Bitten | Kelley Armstrong Grandmistress of paranormal fantasy Kelley Armstrong brings a werewolf story like no other. Elena is a werewolf trying to make it work with a normal human guy, but when her Pack Alpha summons her, she has no choice but to leave Toronto and travel to New York to confront him and the werewolf who bit her. Soulless | Gail Carriger First in the Parasol Protectorate series. This is an alternative Victorian England where the supernatural is not only real but openly acknowledged. As the series goes on, the protagonist ends up married to a werewolf member of the peerage. There’s some Alpha-type romance stuff happening. Autumn Bones | Jacqueline Carey Second in the Agent of Hel trilogy sees the protagonist at the vertex of a love angle with a werewolf and a ghoul, both hot as hell. This is one of the more explicit series I have read, and it’s a great story of Norse mythology meets the Midwest (Lake Michigan area). Kitty and the Midnight Hour | Carrie Vaughn The eponymous Kitty Norville is a werewolf with a midnight radio show. A member of an abusive pack, Kitty ends up in conflict with the local vampire Master, and all hell breaks loose. Sisters Red | Jackson Pearce Little Red Riding Hood retelling about sisters who slay werewolves. Scarlett and Rosie March are young when a werewolf kills their grandmother, leaving them orphaned and virtually alone in the world. Sam and Dean vibes, people. Empire of Wild | Cherie Dimaline Métis author Cherie Dimaline brings us a retelling of the legend of the rougarou. Set off the shores of Georgian Bay, this book is about a woman looking for her missing husband. Her latest clue is a charismatic cult leader whose machismo is as mysterious as it is deadly.
