It's all beginning to take shape now as the group stages conclude in the Senior & Intermediate Football and some eagerly anticipated clashes took place in the Intermediate & Junior Ladies Championships over the weekend as well as Leitrim athletes having mixed fortunes in Soccer at National League level. On today's show we give a run down on the results of the weekend starting SSE Airtricity League and Women's National League action in Soccer (1:54) with Niall Morahan and Dearbhla Beirne having mixed fortunes on Leeside in league action. In Gaelic Games (3:05) the final round of games took place in the Senior & Intermediate championships, we look at the results of those games and the final group placings (4:44) and line ups for the Quarter Finals. It was a relative straight forward set of fixtures at Senior level but with the top two clashing in the Intermediate C'Ship and the two first teams in the Junior C'Ship facing off fireworks were expected in both games. We run through the results (7:28) and the impact on the group tables (8:39) ahead of next weekend's final round of games. In local soccer action Manorhamilton Rangers (11:05) unsuccessfully reached the conclusion of their Sligo / Leitrim Superleague title challenge when rivals Carbury defeated Cliffoney Celtic to secure top spot and leave Rangers in 2nd spot in the table. In Athletics (11:49) there were wins for Carrick AC's Alannah McGuinness and Toyosi Fagbo in their first sprinting meet of the summer at Athlone IT over the weekend also. With our main focus on the Connacht Gold Senior Football Championship (12:10) this weekend the local derby between Ballinamore Sean O'Heslins and Fenagh St. Caillins was our first port of call. After the entertaining draw where a late Oisin McLoughlin free levelled the scores, we spoke to Ballinamore's Tom Prior (12.57) as well as Fenagh's Ryan O'Rourke (14.32) and his manager Joe Flynn (18.42). Drumreilly hosted Allen Gaels in a lively game with a quarter final spot for the winners and a relegation playoff for the defeated side. The game was tit for tat when Allen Gaels found the net towards the end of the first half and it was ended as a contest when the Drumshanbo side netted again. Some late discipline issues saw the hosts reduced to twelve players. After the game we got the reaction of Allen Gaels' Shane Walsh (24:33) and Drumreilly's Conor Gaffney (27:17) On the Ladies Football (28:57) front we focused on the Intermediate grade this weekend with the clash of Mohill and Dromahair topping the bill. Last year's finalists never really got going against the side who came down from the Senior grade after a disappointing year in 2019. Dromahair ran out winners by eight points in the end. We spoke to Mohill's Charlene Tyrrell (29:40) & Barry Lupton (33.32) as well as the Dromahair pair Dearbhla Moyles (36.44) and Erin McGoldrick (38.31) after the final whistle. There were two Ladies games at Senior level also and Vanessa Gallogly (40:31) of St. Joseph's spoke to us yesterday afternoon after her sides victory over St. Francis. Finally we were in Aughavas for their first appearance in the Junior Championship. They've been watching their neighbours playing week in and week out for the last few weeks and will have been delighted at finally getting the opportunity to stretch their own legs in competition as they became the last club in the county to play a game with their first team yesterday afternoon. They had more than enough fire power to see off the challenge of a youth Annaduff reserve side. We spoke to Annaduff stalwart Joe Cox (46.26) and the Aughavas club chairman Noel Shortt (49.48) after the game. Finally after the players of St. Clare's Comprehensive in Manorhamilton (54.35) approached us for help with their petition to have their cancelled All Ireland final put back on the fixture list we were joined by Rachel McPartlin, Rachel Conlon, Emma McLaughlin and Hannah Johnston to discuss the situation and how members of the public can support the girls in their bid to actually play their game at some point in the future when it's safe to do so.
