If you were asked, what is the greatest chapter in the Bible that displays apologetics, what would say? Some might say, 1 Kings 18 where Elijah confronts the false prophets of Baal. Others will most likely go to Acts 17. In Acts 17 we see three instances or accounts of the Apostle Paul's engaging his audiences
His first stop was Thessalonica where he disputed his critics using the Scriptures, and there was a result to his apologetic polemic. The second stop was Berea, where the people were described as being more noble-minded, searching the Scriptures to see if the things Paul was saying were so. The result was the same, the Holy Spirit drew believers into the faith through Paul's polemic and the preaching of the gospel. And then it was on to Athens.
This is where we spend the most time on this show because there is more stated in the text to draw out that Paul had to change methods to meet the challenges coming from the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers. In this part of this episode I break down how Paul is a model for how we can engage our culture and speak into the issues with the gospel.
You will want to take notes during this episode as it is full of meat for how we can find ways to reach the happy cultured pagan in our day.
