Summary: Healthy Christians practice the healthy discipline of self examination. Spirit led reflection in the word of God is vital to growth and spiritual health.
2 Corinthians 13:5 (NLT). Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith.
1 Corinthians 11:28–30 (NLT)That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup. 29For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself. 30That is why many of you are
weak and sick and some have even died.

1.We must examine ourselves against the only true standard, Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 4:13 (ESV)until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.
2.We must examine ourselves under the direction and power of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 2:14 (NLT)But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.
3.We must examine ourselves in the Word of God.
James 1:23–24 (ESV) For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.
4.We must examine our actions not just our intentions.
