Hosts Mofi and Tiese discuss the movement to #ENDSARS. Trigger Warning: Sensitive Content - Violence, Murder. Over the last two weeks, there have been protests against police brutality committed by a special unit of the Nigerian Police Force called the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). In response to peaceful protests, the Nigerian government unleashed even more violence on its citizens. On October 20, 2020, at least 12 protesters (according to Amnesty International) were murdered when the military opened fire on protesters at Lekki Toll Gate. May their souls Rest In Peace. We are angry, and sad, and we demand answers. The government must be held accountable for its crimes against humanity. For its atrocities. In this episode, we reflect on everything that has happened and is happening. In the midst of the violence, there is hope, there is care, there is love. It has been heartwarming to see how In this time Nigerians showed up (and continue to show up) to help their fellow citizen, creating structures to provide mutual aid and looking after one another. The government has done nothing to help us, and instead find ways to harm us, so we must help ourselves.
