On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about all of the latest news and notes surrounding the USC football program. The traditional signing day will not be very exciting for the Trojans but there have been some moves on the staff plus Coach Hyde talks a lot about what head coach Lincoln Riley needs to do to get the program ready to join the Big Ten.

The guys start off talking about the staff with Kliff Kingsbury reportedly withdrawing his name from the Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator job. USC also added a new defensive analyst to the staff with Skyler Jones coming over from Oregon to work alongside defensive line coach Eric Henderson as a defensive analyst. Jones was with the Ducks last year and worked with Henderson at the Rams in 2022. Coach Hyde gives his thoughts on the high profile coaches added to the defensive staff and how the power dynamic could work.

Coach also gives his thoughts on the Big Ten and SEC coming to an agreement and how this could eventually set up its own association that would take over some of the NCAA duties and govern the powers of college football separately. Who does Coach Hyde think would be the best person to run the new organization? None other than former Alabama head coach Nick Saban.

Looking ahead to joining the Big Ten conference Coach Hyde talks about the landscape with powers like Ohio State and Michigan, the dropoff after those two programs and how the Pac-12 could stack up top to bottom with the Big Ten. He feels that USC needs to go in without being intimidated and have confidence the Trojans can compete like they have in the Rose Bowl against Big Ten powers over the years. Coach also had a good idea for a way Riley can get some good intel on his new conference, befriend new Charges head coach Jim Harbaugh. Coach thinks Riley and Harbaugh can exchange ideas and help each other now that he is in the NFL and in the same city.

They end the show with Coach Hyde talking about UNLV transfer quarterback Jayden Maiava and how he should be a good fit in the offense as a backup to Miller Moss. Coach says he is big, strong, talented but not ready to play in the Big Ten yet. He has a lot of potential but feels USC needs to bring him along slowly.
