We strain every sinew to come up with descriptions that do justice to the aural treats we are celebrating. However, sometimes you hear a tune, and it just blows yer socks off, rendering you uncharacteristically speechless. All you can muster is over-used, vacuous platitudes like ‘anthem alert’ or ‘absolute banger’ which, funnily enough, brings us to a case in point. Dave’s new Selador offering ‘Two By Two’ grabs you eagerly by the hand and drags you to the floor from the off, sticks yer head in the nearest speaker stack, and cries “Let’s goooo!!” – and you remain in thrall to its pounding magnificence for nigh on six minutes. The opening bassline motif is pure jackin’ magic, and when the insanely memorable, and ever so slightly unearthly “two by two, side by side” vocal hook enters the fray, all bets are off. These elements are the foundation stones around which assorted riffage is woven. There are few brews more potent on 2024 peak time dancefloors. Oh, and for long time fans of Dave’s work, we reckon it’s a bit like Buzzfuzzle meets The Mighty Ming, aided and abetted by a vocal reminiscent of Divine’s classic Native Love.
