In this episode of the SEO Rank It Up Podcast, the host Erica Glessing talks about some of the easiest ways to check your competition. These days, competition is everywhere and competitors need to be on their game to ensure they’re still in the game. Learn more about the ways in which you can keep tabs on your competition and be one step ahead of them by improving your web page or blog in terms of ranking and appearance on Google.
The purpose of this episode is to enable you to ditch the complexity and opt for better ways that can give you just as good results. One step is to place yourself in the shoes of your client and think from their perspective. Imagine how customers would use your business or services. Pretend (go incognito) and start searching for the services you provide on the internet.
Take a look at competing blog posts in your niche. Websites can be a little challenging in the sense that it’s a bit tricky to compete with the big aggregate companies if you’re just starting out. As a result, take a look at the first page of Google search and click on the more compelling blog posts after the "yelp" and other big company aggregate listings. Type in a term that you think anyone would type while looking for your services, and from there, click on the top 2 to 4 high-quality informational blog posts. This is a good way to look at your competition.
Then focus on different ways you can learn to outrank your competition. Clicking on the top blog post and insert it into WordCount.net, which is a free tool designed for measuring the words in an article or blog post. The first step is to find out how many words they have on one page. For instance, if a page has 400 words in it, then one way to begin to overtake the ranking of that page would be to double your word count.
